no way ucf would leave by themselves....wvu had no choice but to put itself out on an island by itself. i actually think they would only leave if the big12 went all east with their 4 additions(or at the very least 3 of the 4).

best bet is probably to wait out the acc and see who blinks first. if the acc suffers a few one loss team misses like the big12 did this year with baylor and tcu, i could see the acc football powers looking to better their positions.

I disagree, any non P5 school would crawl on their belly through broken glass to get in the group of 5 conferences. The money differential is just too great, they would have to and the travel expenses are more than taken care of if they were to switch from the AAC.

If there are teams out there that should be considered here are the two......

BYU....easy...non conference affiliated...

Nebraska....Why..irrelevant in the Big10..they have lost their entire recruiting base with making the move...I would hazard a guess they would jump at a chance to come back home..

Others....Arkansas......Clemson..........Florida State.....Virginia Tech........For the ACC teams listed they have got to want to play in a FOOTBALL conference......

I am intrigued with the fact that you mentioned Nebraska, why, you ask? Delaney and crew would never go along, but to rectify the displacement, WVU and Nebraska switch spots!!!!!! Nebraska is in a league far from home, where they do not belong, WVU is in the same boat.

I brought this very thing up on the big board. The BIG and Big12 make a trade

Sounds crazy and I dont think we ever see it but in this era..... Who knows:noidea:

I think the easiest (figuratively speaking) route to fixing the problem would be for the conference to adopt the pride and practice of having the toughest OOC slate in CFB.
Think about it, Notre Dame will never be a conference champion but they don't sweat it because if they go 11-1 they are in hands down due to their SOS.

A few thoughts on this subject...

I don't know how you have a CCG with just 10 teams. Would you have to split the conference into 2 five team divisions? Would you still play a round robin, or would you cut back to an 8 game IC slate?

If you add 2 teams to the Big 12, you obviously can have the CCG... this 13th game was advantageous to the 4 teams this year.

But... if, any of the 4 teams had lost their CCG... the Big 12 looks like the smartest kid on the block for not having a CCG.

I agree with GoldRusher, the easiest solution for the Big 12 is to simply schedule a difficult non-conference slate. The SOS will be untouchable by most teams. I think only USCw, Stanford and ND currently schedule zero FCS teams.

The SEC has all the cred right now. Like it or not... they don't have to do anything to improve their team's ranking or respect. They will continue to be biased toward the SEC for the near future.

As Bowlsby has stated, adding 2 teams to the Big 12 just to play a CCG is not addressing the big picture.

If Big 12 teams continue to play a round robin... it guarantees at least 9 games against Power 5... add 2 more in your OOC, and the SOS will be tough to beat by any school outside of the 3 mentioned earlier...

This year, of the "power 5" teams, Oklahoma, Texas, PSU, Arizona, Colorado, USCw, UCLA, and ND did not play a 1AA team, the rest did. Not one played all "power 5" teams.

That's what I'm saying, use ND's philosophy (WVU as well as the Big12) in scheduling. Screw everyone else, our a@@ is covered. Heck, overachieve and play all P5 games OOC. Imo it's a nice draw for recruiting and the fans get better games as well.

I think we can get a CC game with 10 teams. My thought is that you make two 5 team divisions. Each team gets a rival from the other side and plays 2 others from the other division, making 7 conference games. Schedule 4 or 5 P5 teams from other conferences.

One big problem with CFB is that it is difficult to compare conferences given a very limited schedule. when a conference has a dominant player, that team will make it in. When a conference has several very good teams at the top, they all end up losing some games.

TCU, Baylor and Kansas State may all be better than FSU and Ohio State. Had we had more common opponents, there would be something to compare. OSU did not beat Minnesota nearly as bad as TCU did. FSU did not beat Oklahoma State nearly as bad as TCU,Baylor or KSU. Now if we had every team in the conference beating up on B10 and ACC teams, maybe the committee would get a better picture.

This would also be great for WVU. We could replace 2 games in Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas with more regional rivals like VT, Pitt, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. It would be great to see some of these teams bring fresh blood to Mountaineer field. We could schedule one team from each of the P5 conferences each year. Maybe we could even get RR and Arizona to Morgantown. We could have some very interesting matchups.

Unless you approve adding another 15-20 players to the equation for scholarship, I don't know how any team could play a 12-13 schedule facing Power 5 teams exclusively.

Teams need to have some lesser talented opponents to give some break to the wear and tear.

They play 16-19 games in the NFL with smaller rosters.

We played 11 P5 teams this year. Adding one more should not be that bad. Under my plan, you could still play a team from every conference and add a non P5 team to the mix.

Even if you do play P5 teams exclusively, it still may not be as difficult as what we face now. Say we replaced TCU, Ok State and Towson with Kentucky, Illinois, and Oregon State? Overall, our SOS would be lower than what we play in the B12.

Perosnal thought here.

There is nothing wrong with having a 14 team conference later. If we can get Clemson and Florida State, then go to 14. Easy.

But we (Big 12 Schools) need two more schools ASAP. Cincinnati and BYU seem the best immediate choice to me.

I agree, Marshall, Boise, even some 1AA teams are MUCH better than the dregs of the B11, and better than IAST and Kansas. You can indeed play an all "power 5" schedule and have an easy time of it.

The problem with thinking everyone should schedule P5 OOC opponents is that many teams already feel they play a tough enough schedule within Conference and they don't want too daunting of a schedule OOC as well (see SEC). As WV has found, it is expecially hard to get home-n-home series with the bigger teams. So you take the 1 and done game like 'Bama or you schedule Liberty and Towson St. And God help you if you lose those.....

NFL teams can add to their roster throughout the season. They have practice squads and players out of work that fill in as needed as injuries mount and replacements are needed.

WVU was lucky to skate through the season without too many losses this year. Look at how the team was affected last year. Wisky was severely affected by injury to their OL, and it was obvious in the B1G CG that they were not up to the task.

agree 100% and I think that day is coming. The P5 doesn't need to get say so from the NCAA anymore and if they feel they need more players (and Im sure they would feel the same way) then that wont be a problem for them.

As long as all the teams have the same amount of scholarships, it doesn't matter if you play one game or 100, and players are just as likely to get hurt in a game against Towson as they are playing Alabama. I am tiring of this crap that a team is great due to the league they play in, right now, today, Marshall is better, bigger, and stronger than half or more of the teams from the "power 5", yet people try to say that playing IAST is harder.........

I laugh at anyone who puts Marshall up against schools from the Power 5. Marshall couldn't even skate through a conference as weak as CUSA, and someone wants to tell us they're better than half of the Power 5?

Marshall has some talent, but they don't have depth to their talent.

You would think WVU fans would see the difference between playing a grind… compared to playing one or two tough teams a year.

Especially makes me laugh to see DAD talk about the danger of injury being no different between Towson and Bama… when he was one of the outspoken about his concerns of injury loss this year due to starting the season against them.

Unbelievable…

What I can't believe is that I was agreeing with him, like Mac, until he got to trading into the Big 10 (which
I do not want to be in) and then the Marshall statement brought me to reality.

Nebraska is an interesting thought, but we heard the same about Boston College not fitting in the ACC and they never came back to the Big East. It would be interesting bringing in Nebraska, Clemson, and FSU if at all possible.

what is REALLY laughable is some people are so tied up in their new found conference homeruns that they have forgotten that TEAMS play ball, not leagues. No Marshall could not beat the Ohio state's of the world routinely, but I sat in the shoe and watch them come within 3 points, and they absolutely would beat the bottom of any of the "power 5" and to say otherwise shows bias like you claim is shown toward the SEC. Your the one unbelievable, many kids get hurt in practice, in games against 1AA teams, and against SEC teams. Injury is more from poor conditioning and bad luck than the opponent, but yes Alabama has stronger kids THAT HAVE BEEN CONDITIONED WELL.
