This rain should pass. It was pouring down here in Newark about a half hour ago but it's not raining anymore. Looks like it headed north but hopefully it doesn't last.
Reminds me of the time I checked out of a motel in Phoenix at about 8 in the morning. across the street was a bank sign showing the temp at 97F. With a straight face asked the gal at the desk "Have you heard if it's supposed to be hot today?" With an equally straight face she responds with "Not that I heard!"
That is a funny story Hammer. We use that old myth of dry heat to kid with non-locals. It is freakin' hot no matter how you cut it. It is 9:30pm now and still around 97 degrees. The AC is a blazin'
Years ago, I came out of a motel in Needles, CA, with the morning temperature around 180, and there were these huge 6 inch beetles (maybe they were only 3 inches) buzzing around the lites and crawling all over the place. I don't think there had been nuclear testing in the area but it was creepy. Anything like that in Phoenix?
Yea. We have a nuke out here jvett that supplies energy for Arizona, Nevada, SoCal, Utah, and Eastern New Mexico. We get these really big preying mantis. They are a dark brown, not the bright green that you see back east. I hit one the other night on the way home from work and I thought I hit a small bird. Krap all over the windshield. Some folks think they drink the cooling water from the nuke towers but nobody has proven anything. I like your beetle story as well. There are some big beetles out here like you mentioned. Freakin' insects love the dry heat!
