I am starting to think that the rally gorilla dude from espn mastered voodoo over the off season.

Please, don't evoke that name. Day is bad enough for him to reappear.

As dark as times are now I still think we have a decent shot of making the playoffs if we can can get enough guys back and they stay back. I wonder if we don't though if ownership will be willing to increase the budget substantially to extend Yu and maybe add another premium pitcher. I think if we get healthy the offense should be fine for next season. Resigning Soto maybe the best option at C.

Already given up 200 runs and -33 run difference. Both some
of the worst in the majors. Two teams to jump over. If they lose
lose between 2 to 4 games in the standings to the A's by the
end of the month look for Daniels to hoist the white flag and
become a seller at the trading deadline. Also look for
Wash to finally be given his walking papers.

I wouldn't worry about that too much here. Fordman would just IP ban his ass and be done with it or worst come to worse we could block him. Still I doubt he ever finds this website but thats the last I will say of it. Just crazy how many injuries this team has had. I think they very well may have sustained more injuries than they have played games this year.

Not sure of all this... throwing in the towel before the ASB is a little much IMO. Also, I would say all the injuries will at least buy Wash another season- like him or not.

Just kidding Dude. Monkey is of little consequence. Someone should be chasing the A's if not us. Might as well be the Angels. How other teams are doing is obviously the least of our worriers

This from the DMN today:

Daniels also said the Rangers aren’t likely to dive into the trade market at this point.
“We will look to ride it out,” Daniels said. “We might consider the trade market at some point, but right now, we’ll look to ride it out.”

Harrison signed a five-year, $55 million contract in January, 2013. Because of an insurance police on the contract, the Rangers recouped about $2.5 million of his $5 million salary last year. The Rangers would be able to recoup about $6 million of his salary for this season. He is due to be paid $13 million for each of the next three seasons.

Briefly: Manager Ron Washington said C J.P. Arencibia will work with RHP Yu Darvish again in Friday’s start against Toronto. Arencibia and Darvish have worked together four times this season. Darvish has a 0.90 ERA in those games. Said Darvish, jokingly, on why the two work so well together: “He listens to me.”

Can't overlook the Rangers farm system. The Rangers must retain Darvish and build around him. If Darvish leaves as a free agent, we're as good as fucked.

We could be fucked then, unless we come early with a monster offer. As well as Yu has pitched, and with his international appeal, how could his agent not want him to hit FA? A bidding war between the Rangers, Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, and probably a few more and what are we talking about? $25 million per?

It's going to cost that much without getting into a bidding war IMO. But I agree, they need to look to lock him up this winter.

Name me a team, pick one of any era, that "stranger things have happened too" and it ended well?

2012 Oakland A's.

13 games back on June 30.
Hell even better... 5 games back with 9 to play.

You asked for a "stranger things have happened" moment. #bewm

Your pessimism is :lame:

:agree:........Don't know how happy he really is with us. I haven't read/heard anything good or bad. But he seems to be overall satisfied here - other than we haven't scored enough runs for him.

Yu is going to be able to make some outrageous demands. He's earned a lot, so congrats to him. Just hope we can make him happy long term.

If he finishes in the top 2 for the CY Award again this year doesn't he get to opt out a year earlier? Seems like I remember this from last season.

You know the exact skinny on this?

I think he gets the option to opt out of his 6th year.

It's just one guys opinion, but Buster Olney has an article in the Insider today and the title is "Tanaka is $155M Bargain."

Pretty interesting how much time the Yanks have spent studying/researching this guy since 2007.

Realistically speaking, you're talking about one sure thing in our rotation, two injury prone guys that haven't throwin in over a year, and 2 young guys who hardly have any experience. Then, when holland gets back, you'll have 3 injury prone guys and only one young guy.

Since when is Holland "injury prone"?!? :L

You can't win games with a rotation of
Darvish
Colby
Robbie
Tepesch
?

Plus an offense that is been off and on all damn season. You just can't.

I know where we are in the season, but I've been around this game for too damn freakin long. You can't win with this rotation. Its a repeat of the early 2000's. Stars on offense, no pitching. The only difference is our stars on offense havent done shit.

Funny....how did that rotation look last season? Here - I'll do the research for ya.

Holland - 33 starts
Darvish - 32 starts
Perez - 19 starts (20 if you include game 163)
Ogando - 18 starts
Tepesch - 17 starts
Grimm - 17 starts
Garza - 13 starts
Lindblom - 5 starts
Blackley - 3 starts
Wolf - 3 starts
Harrison - 2 starts

But apparently we cant win with the way the rotation is now.
(eventhough the main person we lost from last year's rotation compared to now is Perez. And he was out the 1st bit with a broken wrist.)

Now had you said bullpen.......... I would have to agree.

In my opinion, the best thing to do would be to do nothing.

I agree with this. Dont sell the farm to go get Price, or Lee, or Max. See how the team responds once Derek, Soto and Profar get back. Then go from there.

1. I dont quite comprehend it either. Roster has too much talent to call it a wash... all b/c you lost 1 pitcher that was part of the rotation last year.

Hell, if that's the case, the A's should have thrown in the towel before the season started. :L

2. Wash will be back next year...

Close... Has to win it this year.

OR.... since he finished 2nd last year, he needs to be in the Top 3/4 in 2 other years

Texas Rangers, Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish agree to six-year, $60M deal - ESPN Dallas

"Daniels said if Darvish wins the Cy Young and finishes in the "top three or four" of the balloting a second time in the five years, he can opt out of the sixth year of the contract. He can also get out of it if he finishes second in the balloting and then in the top three or four in two additional years. "

I don't know we could have done to make him mad or frustrated at us. The fans love him, the front office lives him, the players love him, and when we offer that mega extension this winter, he will be more than happy to stay

We have a very important series coming up against Toronto. I think we have a good chance at winning 2 or the 3. Darvish (who is always dominant against Toronto) pitches game 1 and I think Martinez can outduel Dickey in game 3. I don't know about game 2. Not sure if we are going to be able to hit Buehrle (who is 7-1 this season), but in any case, we would need Ross to pitch alot better than he has been if we want a chance of staying in that game
