During our game with DSU, my dad kept yelling out, "Fry the Okra!"

Seems they abandoned the Fighting Okra mascot over the past couple of years for the one on the left instead:

I kept hoping the Okra dude would show, but we saw only the Statesman instead.

We lost, by the way - DSU is a good football team.

Okay, I was wrong about the DSU mascot piece. Apparently, the Fighting Okra was never an official mascot, but it was adopted in the 80s (story):

Luckily for Delta State students, the school has unofficially adopted another mascot. In the late 1980s, DSU students, fed up with the political lameness of the Statesmen moniker, decided that a new mascot was needed. Story goes that some athletes were most annoyed with their current name, and, in what was most likely a drunken debate, chose the Fighting Okra as their symbol. Chants of “Okra! Okra! Okra!” were soon heard at basketball games, and in the 1990s a student vote supported the new mascot. The Fighting Okra has been the school’s second mascot ever since.

Still, I'd have liked to have seen the Okra mascot in Florence.
