Ok, it's 9:00am EST and I'm board and also a little 'bent' at the moment. Time for a rant! I apologize in advance. This is all coming from the a 'geographically' misplaced Giant fan so it may be difficult to totally appreciate. I'm sure that Freeport22 will understand.

I've been a Giant fan for at least 59 years now. All started in the Polo Ground as an 8 yearold kid. Today, the ONLY Giant community I have is THIS BOARD. I'm not sure that most you really appreciate how wonderful it is to live in the area where the team actually play. Your 'team' community is where you live. Here in NY this is the shit that we 'dislocated' fan endure:

a. Listening to the Radio this am. This is what they are saying: San Francisco takes a 2-0 lead in the WS and dis you know that game 1 of this WS had the lowest viewership in MLB history. Who the fuck cares! I guess if we don't have either the Yankees or the Mets competing then why bother having a WS.

b. Giants aren't really beating Detroit. Detroit is just rusty and cant seem to untrack the offense. Never once mention that our SP has only allow 2 ER is 33 innings. That's never fucking mentioned. Never talk about our stellar defense or the depth of the pen.

c. Verlander just had an off day and we were lucky. Totally discounts Pandas 3 HRs and Zeets 6+ shutout innings.

d. Detroit is just rusty from the long layover. Doesn't even matter that we won 6 more games than them in the regular season. Doesn't matter that other teams with long layovers have WON games after the layover.

e. We are just lucky. Everything is breaking our way and Detroit must be snake bit. First it was Pagan's basehit off of 3rd base. Then it was Blanco's bunt that just stopped. Yes, it just fucking stopped. It must have been rolling towards the foul line at about 20 MPH and the hand of God just stopped it.

f. Cabera and Fielder are just too much for any club to handle. Cabera is a triple crown winner and therefore he should probably hit about .800 this postseason. He hit .344 with 44HRS. He's not invincible!

g. And of course there is the Melky side of the equation. In many peoples eyes, we shouldn't even be here. I guess we just discount what the rest of the team does and attribute it to the Melky effect. Maybe next year if the 'suspend' a player they will just eliminate that team from any post season play right on the spot. Fucking idiots.

Done ranting!!!!!!

All I would want to do now is win the NEXT TWO GAMES .... sweep to the WS 2012 title and tell all of our critics to STFU

I can feel your pain.

There has never been I time that I recall a team that is the "underdog" ever gets credit for beating anyone.

What annoyed me about the Tigers/Yankees series is "what happened to the Yankees?" It was never about how good the Tigers played or how great the pitching was starting/bullpen.

Fox is a terrible network to cover baseball as it is. The combo of Buck and McCarver make it almost unwatchable. I can't stand listening to them and hate it even more when they put a camera in the booth so we have to look at the smug look that thin head stupid eyebrow Buck gives when talking about a sport he has no business talking about. McCarver is just as bad with his witless chime ins when the other moron says something not interesting.

The other night I was thinking to myself "what did they just say?". The were talking about Max Scherzer and his strikeouts and in the middle of saying "Scherzer has a ton of strikouts.....yes he has two different colored eyes....." then McCarver chimes in and says "....He is really proud of that". Awful.

It seems as though Buck has a piece of paper of what to say when ----- happens.

If there is a called third strike say.........
If they strike out swinging say.......
If they groundout say.......

You get the idea.

As for the Giants I am rooting for them. I would love them to sweep for the reasons you were saying but selfishly I want it to go seven so I have more opportunity to watch baseball because offseason takes forever.

Sorry if I went off topic.

NY (Yankee) fans are still smarting over the major beatdown the Tigers put on them, so they have to build up how good the Tigers are to salve their hurting butts.

They see what's coming: a very very old team that may actually start missing the playoffs a couple of times. The horror!

Don't let it bother you, SF. Can you get CSN Bay Area online, or KNBR local radio broadcasts? Listen to those with Buck and McCarver muted. Our ring shines even brighter the more everyone else hates it.

e - Yeah, ESPN and the rest of the sports-universe hate the Giants because it requires good baseball knowledge and understanding to explain why they win. They just get a bunch of loud mouths with a cursory understanding of the big 3 sports that pop off on the lip with whatever else is being said around the country. It's like watching lemmings.....if lemmings talked about sports. ;) It's a lot easier to say that the Giants are just lucky (and don't get me wrong, the Giants have gotten TONS of luck in the playoffs.....but how unlucky were they in some of the Reds games.....nobody brings that part up) than say that they play fundamental baseball and they have a team that bends but doesn't break. It's a lot easier to say they don't have any HR hitters than it is to realize that this team gets doubles and triples and goes from first to third on singles and gets a shit ton of sacrifice flies.....and practices.....gulp.....bunting!!!!! It's a lot easier to explain how a guy with 4 pitches and 100mph fastball is successful than it is to explain how a guy who throws 88-90 who changes speeds well does it.

g - I believe it was gp who posted a link about Steve Phillips getting ass-reamed by Chris Russo (I think) about this very topic. Then don't watch baseball because everybody's got steroid users. Morons. It's just a crutch as to how they can relieve the internal cognitive dissonance with "we lost because their team cheated".

Me too. Go Giants! :D Give ESPN another nice big shitburger to eat.

Exactly!!! Tigers didn't win, the Yankees lost. BULLSHIT, the Tigers fucking destroyed the Yankees and bent them over. Unfortunately, there was just NOTHING the Yankees could do about it. Well, since our favorite team lost, might as well jump on the Tiger bandwagon.

lol, this second paragraph would have received virtual rep. AWESOME.

Of course we're getting 'lucky' (also called getting some breaks), every single WS winner gets some luck. All 8 playoff teams are capable of winning it all, in the SSS-fest of the playoffs.

Suck on it, rest of country!

The pundits have to construct these narratives to overlay an almost random SSS process.

I understand the rating went to shit in game one after the Giants took a six run lead. Before that, they were slightly higher than the Cards-Texas game one ratings.

I was talking about this with a couple of friends as we left the park last night. For decades, I always thought Spankeefan was the worst in pro sports -- arrogant, entitled, self centered, etc. Then, in 2004 that changed when, surprisingly, DeadSuxfan went from lovable loser to arrogant, entitled, self centered douchebag.

I truly hope we don't become like those fan bases. It's fine for other teams and fans to be envious of our achievements, but I hope we never get to the Knaves level of "meh, I'll wait for the WS until I go to a playoff game" or the DeadSux/Spankee level of "the world revolves around us." In short, I hope we stay humble, worried, and appreciative of the fact that WS appearances are rare and always somewhat lucky.

Oh, and Tuck the Figers.

The only fans that are like that are the dooshbag fans who think that sports are more important than life/family and the bandwagon fans. Unfortunately, it's going to be like that with any team that has success. I already got called a bandwagon fan for wearing my Giants hat in 2010. In 2011 when I wore it, I didn't hear that at all.....this is the same Giants that I bought (because my old one had to be retired due to being sweat drenched and disgusting, lol) in 2007 when Noah Lowry pitched against the Griffey-led Reds. :L

Hopefully (IF the Giants win this WS), our fans remain humble (and the good ones will.....it only took us 50+ years to get one in SF), but there are always the idiots.

I also thought that UPSTATER had a real good observation. It always seems that whatever achievement level an underdog makes is discounted as just lucky ..... or more to the point .... the favorite has underachieved. So far through two games (here in NY) it is not about what SF has accomplished ity's all about what Detroit hasn't accomplished. That is always followed by tons of excuses. I just can't believe to the level have discounted the pitching efforts of both Zeets and MadBum.

For today's pessimism break, I'd like to use this post to remind us that the Tigers have eaten up righties, and our pitchers will not have an automatic out in the 9 hole (although, this year not so automatic for us).

So before we get out the brooms let's remember this is still a short series of baseball games.

And that we need to play .400 ball this week to grab the trophy.

I don't think anybody on this board has counted the Tigers out. Oh let me list the reasons:

1.) The Tigers are very tough at home.
2.) Analballs Sanchez OWNS the Giants.
3.) I can't imagine Verlander losing twice to Zito.
4.) The Giants came back from 0-2 and 1-3 deficits in this same playoffs.
5.) Max Scherzer has two different colored eyes that he's very proud of.

While we all like the position we are in...

So did Cincinnati.

So did St Louis.
