Took some time to collect my thoughts so here they are:
-The trophy case goes empty another year. If you're like me, that doesn't hurt as much because you've accepted the fact we won't win one with this coaching staff. I don't think Beamer has the right mindset for it. Look at the coaches that have. All are task masters. Beamer is like your grandpa that gives you a dollar every time you see him. Still, its nice to dream.
-Both sides were absolutely terrible today. Poor execution, little effort. Not one good thing to hang your hat on. If I'm a coach, I don't even bother to point out stuff done well this game (if they can find any). Beat it into the players heads that they played like shit and its unacceptable.
-Some of you beat me to it, but I was thinking during the game its time to move Exum back to safety. 3 games and he hasn't looked good at all at corner. He was a pretty solid safety last year. Bonner hasn't been that good either. So I say switch Exum and Bonner, but platoon Bonner's DB slot. At least we'll just have one weakspot as opposed to two (theoretically).
-It appears this defense isn't all that great. Kyle Fuller is great, everyone else, not so much.
-You know in the off season when everyone was excited that our D-line went 2-deep? Turns out "2-deep" means 8 average guys, none are that are great. They've gotten very little pressure on the QB this year and aren't all that great plugging holes in the run game.
-Logan Thomas has regressed. I said earlier during the game whatever George Whitfield taught him in the offseason, he needs to forget. He's only completing 54% of his passes and his mechanics are pretty poor. He's sailing a lot of balls. He's actually getting decent pass protection. He hasn't been sacked much, nor is he running for his life. But he is locking onto receivers, missing check downs, and missing easy throws. It's also discouraging to see that he struggles when running the normal offense and only seems comfortable in a hurry up mode, when only a few select plays are ran.
-The run game is a big issue. Not only is the O-line pretty poor at holding blocks and getting a push, what holes they do make are being totally missed by the backs. This has been evident through 3 games now. If we don't have a run game, we have zero shot at winning games because we certainly can't depend on Thomas' passing at this point
-Only bright spot is this loss doesn't kill the season. Pretty much like every year, the ACC is still open. But right now we're a lot closer to 4 or 5 losses than the Orange Bowl. There's a cheesy Nike(?) commercial airing that has teens losing a championship and using it as motivation all summer to train with sayings like "Remember this hurt" as the monologue. Welp, we need to remember this ass kicking every day of the season from here on out
