You do realize that Harrison is a sure thing and getting lucky in the 5th round or later is not exactly the norm?

But like I said, i don't blame you for wanting your QB. My only concern is that Williams is far from a sure thing. He is talented, but I am not thinking he is the undoubted #1 overall pick in the draft. He could be the next Fields and he would do the same thing in the Bears offense with no help around him.

Is OT a need? They just filled 1 Edge spot with Sweat, but definitely need more. That would be my preferred target (along with their choice of Caleb/Maye).

Harrison is worth the #1 pick, no doubt. Is the Bears offense able to support 2 #1 WRs in addition to Fields' connection with his TE? I don't see it. If the Bears are sticking with Fields, I think they should trade down and get an additional pick or two and take a different WR outside the top 20.

Specifically with how their team is built, I'd probably have Edge as their top priority if they dont go QB. Harrison is a bit like Will Anderson last year, though, where he is going to be extremely coveted.

Is Harrison the only good WR in the draft? Was Puka drafted #1 overall? Bengals will likely lose Higgins this year as they won't want to (or be able to afford to) pay #1 money for a #2 receiver. The Dolphins offense is a far cry from the Bears offense, not a great comp.

Bears could trade down and get more picks, or use their 3rd or one of their two 4ths.

It's wasteful in terms of draft capital to make either MH2 or DJ a 2nd option getting less than 4 targets per game.

For their 2022 offense the Dolphins used a #6 overall pick on Waddle, used a ton of resources to get and pay Hill, paid Gesicki tag money, and then procured 4 big money RBs. It's about what players do on the field not the label a fan gives them.

Not that Purdy is the 2nd coming, but game managers don't end a season with 30+TDs and 4k yards passing. And that is what Purdy is on pace to exceed. At this pace, he'll make the pro bowl. He's nothing close to a game manager.

Game managers also do not lead the league with 116 passer rating.

Purdy does not seem to rattle easily, really like how he moves around in the pocket. Do not know if he is 2nd coming either, but I think he will be a good QB for some time. Not to shabby for Mr. Irrelevant.

I am rooting for him to do well, appears like a good guy.

I would more than love to see MHJ in a Bears uni,and use the 2nd no.1 on Nix,or Possibly Daniels,then the Bears could use Fields in a TH role.....
But some say Chicago could get a 2nd for Fields,I tend to think a 3rd myself.......

He and Pennix look great, however they've both been in college for at least 5 or 6 years...Nix started off at Auburn and Pennix at Indiana. It's hard to evaluate Penix or Nix really. I'm sure they will go high in the draft because of the success in college but I've watched the highlights of a lot of both of their games and these PAC12 secondaries are total trash. Penix has 3 good WRs and one of them is wide open on virtually every drop back. And if they aren't, he just targets Odunze and that kid just catches everything, it seems. And we just never know with Oregon's system as you say. I'm not as high on Nix. I like McCarthy better than both of these kids, tbh.

When trying to figure out where these guys will be drafted, we should also consider that at least 6 teams in the top 12 will very possibly be thinking about drafting a QB and at least 3-4 other teams might be trying to trade up to get one.

I mean hell, look at Philly. They have two damn good WR's and they are a running offense. They surrounded Hurts with talent. If you do not surround your QB with talent, he is not going to succeed no matter who he is. Just ask Mahomes when the only reliable target he has is Kelce. Mahomes is otherworldly, and even he struggles with one weapon. Now, Mahomes does elevate KC even though his weapons are mediocre at best outside Kelce, but he is the best QB in the NFL. You give any other QB what Mahomes has on offense, I don't think there is another QB that wins or produces what Mahomes does.

You put Mahomes on SF, you are probably looking at SF winning games 50 to 10 on average during the year and being undefeated. I mean, Purdy is damn near doing that himself, because he is damn good. I am not saying Chicago shouldn't go after their QB if they truely feel Fields is never going ot be a starting QB in this league.

However, trading down a couple spots, picking up more assets and surrounding Fields with talent on offense? I don't know man, that is a damn tough call.

Who knows what Chicago does at this point, but a rookie QB contract is a huge advantage for team building and a window that is ending soon with Fields. Are they going to compete in 2024? Not likely, then comes a new contract needed for Fields and a large raise (or moving on to a new QB without that #1 pick in your back pocket). Is there any chance they pick up his 5th year option? Seems like a leap of faith at this point.

Funny that you use Philly as a good example and KC as a bad one, given the result of the SB. Regardless, Philly generates targets for both of their WRs and have an elite OL. Cole Kmet is tied for 6th in the league in targets per game. Is it a positive to bring Harrison into that mix and diminish Fields' connection with Kmet? I would question picking Bowers for the same reason. If you're trying to bring along Fields, it would seem smart to keep his safety blanket in place.

I fully understand that, which is why I scoffed at your relate to the Rams. Of all the elite WRs that are in the league today, how high were they drafted? Chase went #5, but he also went to his college QB. JJ was the 5th WR drafted at 1.22. They both went to teams with a strong passing game/QB and enough available targets.

I'm not a Bears fan (or a Caleb/USC fan), just an outside observer. I don't think anyone expects Caleb to potentially be a Fields level prospect, that seems like a bit of a cop out.

I'm not remotely suggesting the Harrison isn't worthy of the #1 overall pick to the right team. I just don't think the Bears are in a position to get the most value of that #1 pick by taking him. If Carolina wins a game or two and someone like Arizona gets the #1 pick, Harrison should be the pick if they don't trade down. If the Pats get there? Should be QB IMO. If it's the Commanders? They should probably trade down as well, since #1 seems too high for LT prospects with those 2 QBs on the board. It's just a matter of maximizing value. If things stick as they are today (Chicago #1, Pats #2, Cards #3), Chicago could trade down for quite a haul of picks to a QB needy team should they decide to stick with Fields. There is additional strong talent at WR in this draft beyond Harrison.

McCarthy is a tough evaluation too, as he isn't asked to do much with their reliance on their strong running game. Scouts are going to need to really dig on these prospects after the first 2 or 3.
