And of course this is the answer.

Any time an established character is changed in a noticeable way and anybody asks "Why?" the response is always "Why not?".

"Why is Clark Kent a midget in James Gunn's new Superman movie? That's silly."

"Why not?"

"Well, I guess mostly because Superman is not a midget."

"It literally doesn't matter. It's fake. Sounds like you just hate little people."

"Lol, okay. I guess enjoy 'Manlet of Steel' this December."

you guys keep bringing up physical things that actually do kind of change things...

but again, would a midget Superman really make any kind of difference? Wouldn't he still be the man of steel? It might add some sort of social issues that little people face to the story like he wouldn't actually get taken seriously...but what does it matter? The big picture of the character is still there.

have you read Cave's posts?
Yes. I haven't picked the show back up, but anything you write for an actor as part of a larger story and commit to film should be more than just "it's fiction; it doesn't matter."

If something jarringly makes no sense I usually assume it's a deliberate plot point.

Are you saying you'd contribute to a GoFundMe for this project if it were real?

Because I may or may not have just floated that out there as a way to gauge interest in the script I finished two weeks ago.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter...

but if it doesn't actually affect the overall story, then who cares? Especially in a NPC who you see in one episode like he is griping over.

no, I am not.

but when people get their panties in a bunch over some new character taking over a mantle like Superman or Iron Man or whatever, you get to see the superhero character in a new light because there is a different social aspect to how they embrace the mantle. I find that sort of thing interesting.

you aren't getting anything like that if you change Joel's sexual orientation unless you inject some sort of love interest. From what I have seen, he isn't thinking with his dick.

Anything that makes the audience pause should affect the overall story. That pause is part of the dynamic between audience and show.

If it doesn't matter, skip it and focus on things that do matter.

I agree...but Cave is pausing for stupid reasons that don't matter towards the overall story.

it is a word

but he definitely didn't use it correctly.

whom's is a contraction for "whom is"

his sentence was "Oh tell me who that is whom’s lies contributed to more than 1 million lives lost (just in this 1 example, mind you). Who is more destructive than that?"

"Oh tell me who that is whom is lies contributed..."

yea that ain't right...but he sounded smart, right?
did you give up on this @broncosmitty?

lol

The only actual thing to be upset about with this show is that they turned an interesting concept with an established backstory that was decent into generic zombie hollywood crap.

What's funny is HOW they're doing it.

In the game Maria is one of the leaders of one of the few settlements that exists in this post apocalyptic wasteland. Her and her dad founded the place and fixed up a dam to provide the settlement with electricity. She's also still Tommy's girlfriend.

But that wasn't good enough for this show I guess. They had to add former 20 year old assistant district attorney and presumably single mother (we didn't hear about a husband). Oh, and she did it as a black person in possibly the whitest state in the country.

If I read something like that in a script I'd assume it was an comedy sketch.
The ada thing got a huge chuckle out of my wife as well.

Yeah, but you are arguing with me over more than just an npc role for one episode, you are wondering why it would matter if one of main characters in the story had a huge change in their back story and who they are.

If there was no source material the accolades for this show wouldn't nearly be as high....it's pretty lazy story telling. And when did ellie get bit twice as someone said earlier?

injecting deaf representation is more "woke" than the Frank and Bill story...but I doubt you will see anyone clutching pearls over that
In my opinion, these 6 things are just like the ADA job and the dog scene. They are pointless pieces of dialogue that mean nothing, thus aren't worth getting my panties in a bunch over.

What scenes and dialogue have been worthwhile so far in this series?
