Hopefully you're right on him performance-wise, and he can stay relatively healthy.
The financial cost isn't too bad but the risk is big.
I would say the risk is fairly minimal due to the 2 years. Bennie was right that 4 years would have been too big of a commitment and potentially blocked better arms. But there are ways out of a 2-year deal, and if you’re going to take a free agency flier, then one on someone with a higher upside is one you want to take.

I’m just beyond sick of watching the Rangers trot out mediocre starter after starter with minimal talent over the last 5 years (with only a few notable exceptions).

For a minute there I forgot who was running this team. CY could somehow land BOTH of those guys. True mad scientist.
Can't discount anything at this point. I wouldn't say it's super likely, but who knows?

I get being tired of mediocre pitching, for sure. Just not convinced Heaney is a wiser sign than going big after Rodón or Senga, or if going after a mid-tier guy, a Taillon or Bassitt type.
I'd prefer any starting pitchers signed to be types of guys you can build around for the next several years.

Now onto LF and possibly 3B? Move Jung to 1B? Lowe to DH.
Brandon Drury would be a nice pick up.

He could cover 3B or LF if the young guys can’t hang.

Drury would be a good addition. But I’m getting spoiled here. I’m still head-in-the-clouds hoping for a trade for Bryan Reynolds. I’m waiting for the announcement of Alcantara to Texas or Senga signing on the dotted line.

Judge in LF, anyone?

Well, we are about to find out about Heaney up close and personal aren't we. At least he probably gives the young guys a chance to pitch when he is hurt.

I’ll go B just because it was negotiated down to 2 years instead of the 4 Bennie read that he was after… and also due to the higher ceiling involved. If he stays healthy and even pitches to a 4 ERA, I give it a B+ or A-.

If we get the version of Heaney from most of his starts last year, I think you will be favorably impressed.

At least this signing pushes Spencer Howard farther away from ever starting again.
