Where is the thread saying Wazzu rules anything?
It could only be in a comedy section because Wazzu has never ruled anything in any of our lifetimes.

ZERO Top 8 finishes in football EVER,
ZERO Top 8 finishes in basketball in 80+ years,
ZERO Top 8 finishes in baseball in 45 years.
ZERO Top 8 finishes in hockey EVER.

Total top 8s in those 4 sports all-time for Wazzu?

Six.

6, ALL-TIME!!! lol

Wazzu could be one of the most irrelevant universities in the country since WW2?

UMn can claim TEN TIMES that number.

Sure they do.

Never heard of the NHL?

Miracle on Ice?

NHLers make more money on average than nflers make. Probably (if that is true) because there are way more players on an NFL team than on an average NHL team.

Most of the Northern hemisphere cares about hockey. Only America plays American football. Europe, Canada & Russia care about hockey (not so much in Asia & Oceana). In the US, it is primarily a big thing in the northeast, midwest, & Colorado; & a few outlying cities in the Southeast, California & Nevada that have pro teams. You won't find too many locales below the Mason-Dixon line where its followed or carried on much in the high school & junior ranks (Nashville, Memphis & Knoxville being exceptions).
Every state in the US has high school football teams, and every state except Alaska has collegiate football teams. Some European countries also play American football on the club level. Japan, Mexico & Puerto Rico also have various iterations of club & collegiate teams. Some foreign players even make it onto American teams, usually as punters/kickers, but also as offensive/defensive linemen.

And NO, you are not.

UMn has produced 4 times as many NBA players who've scored at least 1000 pts, 5 times as many who've scored at least 10,000.

UMn has produced 6 Naismith bb HOFers, has WSU produced any? The one WSU might eventually be able to claim is the son of a Gopher, lol.

UMn's produced 6 WNBA players, including one of the best ever, WSU's produced ZERO.

Neither of our schools are bb powers, so NIT tourney performances are actually relevant. UMn has 2 Titles, a Runner Up in 4 Semi-Final apps,
WSU has just one Semi-Final appearance.

4 > 1.

Both schools have pre-NCAA tourney Natl Titles, WSU in 1917, UMn in 1902, 03 & 19.

3 > 1.

Minnesota has TWICE AS MANY appearances in the NCAA Baseball Tournament,

32 > 16.

and 16 CWS wins compared to WSU's 5.

16 > 5.

3 titles and a 3rd place finish is way better than one single solitary runner up finish.

3 > 0.

UMn's had 3 MOPs, has WSU had any?

3 > 0.

UMn's produced 35 MLB All-Stars compared to WSU's 21.

35 > 21.

And I haven't even had to mention hockey yet. Our #2 ranked team is playing the #3 ranked team tonight. When was the last time WSU could EVER claim such a thing?

"ZERO top 8 finishes in football EVER" :L

Do you ever look things up before you firmly stick your football in your mouth?

And remember what you said, ever.

Once again you're wrong. In 2013 Missouri finished the season ranked 5th in the country. In 2004 they finished 4th in the country. Info from collegefootball-pollarchive.com. <---you'll say something stupid, as usual, like they aren't valid

Now lets take a look at Minnesota football. They finished the 2019 season ranked 10th. Before '19 the last time they finished in the top 10 was 1960.

Did you know that between 1960 and this season Minnesota has only finished ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season 6 times? And three of those were '60, '61, '62.

Time to shift the argument that hockey is more important than football
No, hockey is NOT more important than football, presently. But I was only pointing out that the phrase "no one cares about hockey", is pure bs.

And in 40 years, hockey will have grown while football will have shrunk. Not claiming college hockey will become bigger than college football, but it will close the gap some. How much will depend on if innovators can make football safer or not, as young people are more and more choosing NOT to play football. Sports like soccer will grow as well. And yes, the NFL employs more players than the NHL, and that is in part why NHL players make more on average than NFL players, but if "no one cares about hockey", then even the smaller number of players wouldn't be able to account for NHL players making more on average, but apparently plenty of people here in America and around the world DO care about hockey.

Hockey is played at the collegiate level all over the United States.

The ACHA has approximately 450 teams, 3 different divisions of men's teams and 2 divisions of women's teams. It was created in part because Title IX makes it hard for colleges to start of men's hockey programs.

Women's Div 1 NCAA hockey tournament just expanded and the men's tournament is talking about expansion as well.

Well damn I did read that wrong.

See when I make a mistake I admit it.

You on the other hand not so much.

Will the Gophers win the BigTen this season and go to the Final Four? It's funny their only Final Four doesn't count.

But their 3 Natl Titles DO.

And NO, Gopher fans are just hoping they make it to the NIT this season. Next season could be a big year if our 2 upperclassmen choose to return.
3 injured players sitting out right now, only 1 expected to return this season, our top player. Starting lineup dominated by 3 Frosh and we're depending on a walk on right now for too many minutes.
Next season those 2 injured players should be back, a Top 30 recruit will join the lineup, and we'll hopefully only lose 1 senior who is not a big contributor. Future is bright for both the men's and women's Gopher bb teams.

And I've admitted mistakes several times. Like the time I forgot about Wisconsin's 4th cbb Natty in the 40s. I only remembered their 3 Helms/Premo-Poretta Poll/pre-NCAA tourney Titles.
I also miss counted the SEC East's Top 25 finishes once, missed Georgia's Top 25 in 2014 I believe? Something like that?

Some of what you consider mistakes, are not, just differing opinions. I've NEVER said Oregon didn't win the 1939 NCAA bb tournament, I just dispute the 1939 NCAA tournament's worthiness as a Natl Title tournament.

The populace, the masses of the time did NOT recognize it as such, they recognized the NIT tourney held at Madison Square Garden, including ALL the best teams in the country that year, as the legit Natl Championship tourney. The Title game included two undefeated teams that beat teams that beat Oregon.

The Final Four of the NCAA tourney that year, 1939, included teams with 4, 5, 5 and 6 losses, the Final Four of the NIT included teams with 0, 0, 1 and 2 losses I believe, or something close to that. BOTH the Helms and the Premo-Poretta Poll declared the NIT Champs as the Natl Champs.

I'm actually making an effort on the paragraph thing. Not sure why? I always hold out hope for everyone I debate, that I can eventually bring them around to the truth. lol

Now I am going to concentrate on my #2 ranked Gopher Men's Hockey team playing #3 ranked Michigan. They scored first, one of the only teams to score first on Michigan all year.

We'll need a cushion with our starting goalie out sick tonight. Not complaining, Michigan has 5 players out sick, UMn has 2 out, just that the goalie position is pretty important. We'll see how it goes. Wish both teams were fully healthy. Hard to know where you stand against a team if you beat them with players missing.

Both squads are dominated by underclassmen, 2 youngest teams in the country, moreso for Michigan, 50% of Michigan's scoring is done by Frosh, 33% by Sophs, only 33% for the Gopher Frosh and 18% for the Sophs. UMn's got a few seniors who account for 31% of the scoring, but there is a super talented recruiting class coming in AGAIN next season for the Gophers. The Gopher coach is killing it recruiting wise lately. 8-10 NHL first round picks on the roster this year or in the next 2 classes.

22 NHL draft picks in total between the two teams tonight.

Oh crap. Michigan gets a power play, they are the #2 ranked PP unit this season. UMn's PK unit is only ranked #35 in the country, so this was one of the keys to the Gophers winning was NOT giving Michigan any PP opportunities. Especially against the Gopher's backup goalie.

Sweet, survived, even got 2 quality short handed goal chances.

What an amazing time of the year for a Gopher sports fan.

#1 - excited to watch the Gopher fb team go for it's 3rd win in a row tomorrow.

#2 - got to listen to the #1 ranked women's hockey team play on Monday.

#3 - got to listen to the #1 ranked men's hockey team play last night and tonight.

#4 - Am listening to the end of the Gopher Men's bb team's 2nd game and 2nd win, an 18 pt win. I think 4 scored in double figures with at least 6 scoring at least 8, including the freshmen scoring 40 points combined.

#5 - will switch to the men's hockey game while checking out how the Top Ten ranked women's volleyball team is doing. The VB team also plays on Sunday and I will get to watch that game.

#6 - will figure out when the women's bb team with it's Top Ten ranked class of frosh is playing in hopes I get to watch them, too.

#7 - The women's CC team may not finish #6 in the nation this year, as they graduated many of their best runners, but 5 of their runners ran their personal bests in today's Regional meet and as a whole are very young with a frosh leading the way with a 12th place finish.

#8 - the women's swim and dive team's probably in action and I am interested to see if our top Diver sweeps again for the 3rd or 4th weekend in a row. Continuing UMn's Dive U reputation.

#9 - UMn's Wrestling team may be starting up this weekend and should be ranked Top Ten.

#10 - UMn's women's Gymnastics team might also be starting up this weekend and have been doing well lately. Might rank Top Ten as well?
Another BIG weekend for the Gopher's sports teams.

#1 - starting out the long weekend is the #2 ranked Men's Hockey team, the 2nd youngest team in the nation, playing the #3 ranked Michigan Wolverines, the youngest team in the country. 22 total NHL draft picks combined on both rosters. UMn's scored first, but UMn's just given Michigan, the #2 PP team in the country their 2nd PP opportunity.

#2 - The Men's BB team plays their 4th game of the season tonight after the hockey game.

#3 - The Women's BB team dominated by it's Top Ten ranked Fr class play tonight as well.

That's just tonight. Big games tomorrow night as well including the #9 ranked Women's VB team playing #14 ranked PSU, some Swim & Dive action, then football vs Iowa of course on Saturday and the #1 ranked Women's Hockey team plays the #3 ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Sunday sees the 2nd women's hockey game vs UW, another women's bb game, another Women's VB game and the Wrestling team playing both a dual match and in a tournament as well. Then Monday is men's BB vs Cali Baptist.

LOVE this time of year.

Time to shift the argument that hockey is more important than football
I read somewhere that Oregon promised to build a new hockey arena within 2 years of being accepted into the B1G IF the B1G accepts them into the conf. Not sure that will help enough to overcome their HORRENDOUS research rankings? But the B1G might want Washington enough to accept Oregon as their closest viable rival to come along in with them. No way Washington will want to be the only team in the B1G in that whole NW region. And Seattle has a long history of loving hockey, so UDub could also start up college hockey as well if they join up?

And to keep football in the discussion, UMn got a guy into the semi-final list for the Outland Award. Schmitz is the top rated Center in the P5 according to PFF's ratings. He'd be UMn's 4th winner of the Outland. Only a few programs have more than 4 Outland winners. Bama(6), Nebraska(9) & Oklahoma(5).

Bama & OSU with 3, both have a semi-finalist as well.

How UMn and more specifically, Schmitz, performs against Iowa and Wisconsin will have a lot to do with whether or not he has a chance. Georgia, TCU also have players as semi-finalists, so the competition will be tough.

Nice win the other night by your VB team, btw. Would be cool to see 4-5 B1G teams in the Elite 8 this year and 2-3 in the FF. Hard to imagine anyone beating Texas this year, though.

#2 - The Men's BB team plays their 4th game of the season tonight after the hockey game.
UMn wins this game by 10 pts. Nothing too impressive, I'd even say it was sort of a ho-hum kind of game, should have won by 20 at least.
#3 - The Women's BB team dominated by it's Top Ten ranked Fr class play tonight as well.
Women's team lost, I believe, it was a close game, but our top player didn't play. She scored 34 last game. That's a big piece of the puzzle missing. This is a frosh dominated team, no one expects them to be winning any Natl Titles this year anyways, but it's interesting to know how we play without our best player. Not so good.

That's just tonight.
