Just me but Gannon is by far my last hope of the 10.

He is my second to last. I really am leaning O'Connell with everyone else in the middle then Bieniemy and Gannon bringing up the rear.
What do you like about O’Connell? McVay calls the plays, so the success of the Rams mostly goes to McVay. I am sure O’Connell co tributes behind the scenes though. McVay seems like a guy that teaches his coaches.

Don't buy into the "O'Connell doesn't call plays, McVay does it all myth", I think it is a terrible idea to hire a coach based on success of calling plays in the first place. That isn't what a head coach is about. That is what an offensive coordinator is about. O'Connell leads and develops. O'Connell from my knowledge is a very respectful and bright young man. O'Connell was a QB himself and while he didn't have the elite traits to be a successful QB he had the traits that many QB's don't have. He understands the game, he prepares well, he is a leader and people respect him. He brings energy (something we have lacked in our coaching department for awhile) He is something different. People trust him. QB's who have worked with him rave about him, believe in him, trust him, have success under him. It didn't take O'Connell long to find success and move his way up. He went straight to the NFL and quickly became someone teams relied on, he grew quickly. QB coach, passing coordinator and now had developed into a legit HC candidate. Pay attention to the route he has taken, how quickly he has grown, who trusts him, who has had success under him... He is interviewing for our HC job not our O coordinator job... Oh, and you want to know if he is trusted? Can't ignore the fact that O'Connell had the trust of a coaching staff that they had him script the first 15 plays of a game. McVay is a great offensive mind himself, he is a play caller. It wasn't like this was Wade Phillips calling plays over O'Connell. McVay very well could be the best play caller in the NFL. Get O'Connell before it is too late and we regret it. O'Connell is a very smart, trusted and dedicated leader.. That is what I want in my head coach. I get the playcalling thing bothers fans but honestly as a head coach I look for a lot more then that. I've seen too many "good play callers" fail in the NFL... I'm more worried about the other things and I am pretty confident if O'Connell does want to call the plays here he will be just fine... It's sorta funny to me that many fans would be ok with O'Connell as an OC but not as a HC because he "didn't call all the plays".. I've seen people want Dan Quinn as our HC and O'Connell as our OC (which won't happen) but then their main concern about hiring O'Connell is inexperience calling plays.. Makes me laugh when I look at it like that. Do they think O'Connell is going to be a better play caller if he is an OC and not a HC? We aren't sure who he would even bring in as an OC. My guess is he would call the plays if he is the HC though. IMO, O'Connell is going to be one of the better coaches in the NFL whenver he gets a gig and that my friend.... Is what I like and want O'Connell for.

What do you like about Gannon?

Like I said from the start. We as fans only really have so much to go off of "preferring" a coach. Like I said before I am not all the way in or all the way out of any coach. Selecting a coach isn't like NFL talent scouting to me where I feel I can form a good opinion based off what I see. (Doesn't mean it is always right because nobody is) but no fan can say they can really scout an NFL coach without being in an interview room or getting inside scoop/recommendations, etc.... There is just not enough to go off of especially when you factor into how different each situation is that a coach is in.

I think there are 2 things that our head coaching candidates have in common:
  • They connect with players
  • They bring energy
What do I like about Gannon is he has varied back ground that includes more then coaching. He also encourages collaboration with in the team. Albright shared a story before the last draft that he told the Eagles that they should concentrate on the offensive side of the ball, and they would piece it together on Defense. That can be taken a couple different ways, but what it tells me is he sees the big picture for overall team success. We all know that rules are tilted toward the offense, and we know if the offense is not at least competent that the margins are really thin. The 2021 Broncos are evidence of this. The defense overall was very good, but the offense found ways to not be successful. They lacked any kind of explosion and 1 negative play would kill a drive more times then not.

Do you think if GB wins today that says no Hackett to Denver?

I think you pick the best guy for the job and move forward with them, regardless of when they may be available.

I am convinced Gannon is a good D Cord and in time might be a good HC. I just don't feel he is ready but that is just me... Could be way wrong and if he is Denver's choice I REALLY hope I am wrong and I am not going to hate on the guy if he is the coach. I want whoever it is to be great here. I just don't think he is the right guy for the job right now. I understand the things you look for in a coach but I don't thin Gannon is the only guy that has those. That is nice and all that he told the Eagles to focus on offense but I also think that was a bit of a no brainer given their mess on the offensive side of the ball. ;) In other words I don't think they needed his approval or recommendation. It was going to be a focus point regardless. Gannon is on the right path and if he is the guy then cool. I trust Paton. Gannon just isn't screaming my name right now (which means he probably will be the HC) for all I know O'Connell is the 10th choice right now....I am very nervous about the Defense taking a hit with Fangio gone. Like I said.. I get more irritated with a bad defense then a bad offense. So maybe if Gannon is the choice he is the right choice and our defense stays strong. He just aint my pick base off the very little information I can go off in selecting a head coach. I would say many of the 10 candidates we have vying for our job have the qualities you list above. Connecting with players and bringing energy and fire to a team are very important traits. But I also want a guy who makes the players and coaches around him better because of a coaches own ability to get better, grow with a team and have his player grow under him. Much like we have seen with Sean McVay. I want a coach who can make adjustments, a coach who can utilize the talent he has in front of him. Someone players trust, someone who makes his players better and each and every day focuses on making himself better, not just players. A coach that isn't stuck in his own ways..... A coach that players will run through a brick wall for... A coach that when things get tough for a team they don't stop fighting because things always do get tough. A coach that helps players shine and fight through adversity. A leader! Who is that guy??????? Hell, I don't know.....

I agree with you on the things you want in a HC. Yep think one of the hard parts of a head coaching search is there is so much that happens behind the scenes that is fans don’t see, and don’t have access to find out about.

Totally- The little details of what makes a HC a good HC and right for this situation is very hard for us to judge. He aint perfect, nobody is.... But I feel much better about Paton making this decision then I did when Elway was here. It's like the Polar Express. "I BELIEVE"

I am convinced Gannon is a good D Cord and in time might be a good HC. .
While it's yet to be seen how Gannon would fare as a head coach, what on his resume convinces you he's even a good defensive coordinator ?

At some point, whatever it is a person does, if you're good at it, there must be some results ... Gannon's defense gave up 41 and 51 points in the two games vs the Cowboys this season ... The Eagles also played the Giants twice, Washington twice, the Jets, the Broncos and the Lions .. not exactly offensive machines

The Bucs just walked up and down the field on them last week

Gannon showed nothing that makes me think he's a standout d coordinator ..

Mom was a huge Eagles fan, so I still watch every Eagles game .. I realize that as fans, there's much more than meets the eye as far as what we see and can base or opinions on, but at some point, a coordinator has got to show it on the field and have his abilities reflected on the scoreboard and in wins ...

Is it possible that a mediocre coordinator could excel as a head coach - sort of the opposite of the Wade Phillips syndrome ??? .. I guess anything is possible, but if Gannon is going to get consideration as a HC, there's gotta be a lot more to him that what his defenses have shown on the field

To be honest I was trying to be nice and not sound like a d bag to JDBaker's choice for a HC. I shouldn't have said "convinced" but I do feel he did a lot with nothing on that defense. He is growing. That is really all I can say about Gannon right now. He doesn't have the goods in Philly to have a dominant defense but at times this year their Defense played very well. Listen, you don't get multiple head coaching interviews if there isn't something good about you. There is a reason multiple teams are reaching out to him. When I watched the Eagles this year their defense often showed me more then I expected going into this season. Yes, there were bad games too but that defense he coached wasn't an attractive situation going into the season.

One thing Gannon was able to do this year is to motivate his guys and gets the most out of them.

He had also had been a college and pro scout. I do like that about him.

We can all like different guys, but once a coach is hired, we will rally behind him and his staff.

George has a process that makes sense to me, and I trust he will make a good choice.

I'm not sure being a college and a pro scout makes me want him anymore as a head coach to be honest. That part doesn't mean a lot to me. I do agree that he seemed to motivate his guys but maybe not enough of a sampling size for me to get excited about him over the other 9 guys.

That is fair.

I just think the scout side gives him a different perspective that he can use to get the most out of players. I could be completely wrong.

FYI, OConnell creates the gameplan, scripts plays, watches tape, etc. If you're looking for the easiest part of a coaches job, calling the plays on game day is probably it. You have tendency and down/distance charts, and you typically call plays based on all those things.
