Almost every QB in the HOF has either been a first-team All-Pro or a multiple SB champ. The only exception is Moon, who got some credit for his five Grey Cups. Wilson will need a little boost, I think.

Guessing he has what......8ish years left, just maybe. By then his stats will be among the best ever so hard to ignore that.

you are right that he is a shoe in to make the HOF at least after this next season once he gets 10 seasons under his belt...

But you must be smoking something to think he can play for another 8 seasons... 5 more seasons is a push...

really, he is playing on borrowed time already... it is amazing that he never missed a game before in his career... but a 5'11 QB that made his career with his legs, once he loses that step, he will fall quickly.... and he will lose that step soon... He has gotten hit way too often... and if he ever becomes a pocket passer, he will need a better line than that Seahawks line...

I would be shocked if he is in the league still in 2025

Both Fran Tarkenton 18 year career, Drew Brees 20 year career were ligter less muscular than Wlson.

Justin Gatlin one of the two/three fastest cats on earth right now today is 39ish, Kim Collins a Caribbean sprinter ran his PR after 40.

These guys today have trainers and the best of everything, a 40 year old pro athlete today is totally different than back in the day. I got no problems seeing Wilson doing what he does at 37/38ish.

That's only five or six more years.

One of the reasons Wilson was pretty good out of the gate was he was older than most rookies. He turned 25 during his rookie season, while everybody else we're discussing was two or three years younger.

If he has seven more solid years he'll crack the top 10 in passing yards and passing TDs, but his visit there will be brief, and by the time he's eligible for the HOF the wave of guys behind him will have overtaken him.

Wilson supporters themselves will use "the game has changed" to justify his Hall credentials. If he doesn't kick it up a notch he's not a shoo-in by any means.

Really? He looks a lot like an era-adjusted Daunte Culpepper + 1 SB. (An era where average Completion % was like 7 points lower than Wilson's era, and passer rating was like 13 points lower.)

Wilson says he wants to play until he is 45, and we know how much $$$$ he spends on his body. If anyone can do it he can.

If he plays until he is 40 his stats alone will be so far out there he has to be a HOFer.

Wilson has 267 TD's and 81 INT.

That is better than three times more TD's than INT's.

Who has done that.

Rodgers over 400 and less than 100, damn!!!!

adjust the era however you want, has he been one of the elite QBs for the past 9 seasons??

Compared to his peers he is a clear HOF IMO...

I know AV and PB are terrible measurements, but its the easiest way to compare quickly...

there are 26 QBs with 6 or more PB in NFL history... Wilson is 16th, and he has only played 144 games... that is one of the least games played of those players...

Moreso, there are 19 QBs who have 7 pro-bowls or more...

the only non current, non HOFer is Jack Kemp...

That's helpful. Let's look closer.

NFL overall averages per game

1983

comp % 56.9 (Marino 58.4, +1.5)
yds 204.6 (Marino 219 over 9 starts, +14.4)
TDs 1.4 (Marino 1.9 over 9 starts, +0.5)
passer rating 75.9 (Marino 96.0, +20.1)

2012
comp % 60.9 (Wilson 64.1, +3.2)
yds 231.3 (Wilson 194.9, -36.4)
TDs 1.5 (Wilson 1.6, +0.1)
passer rating 85.6 (Wilson 96.0, +10.4)

So slight edge to Wilson in comp %; big edges to Marino in yards, TDs, and passer rating.

6 QBs make the pro bowl. Only two start. Wilson has only started once.

Is there any HOF QB who didn't either start multiple Pro Bowls or win multiple championships?

Pretty sure Wilson would be the first if he makes it with what he's got.

Wilson will play in another 6ish pro bowls giving him 13, he's won a SB something tons of HOF QB's haven't done.

All his numbers will be in top 6ish all time if he just does what he's been doing.

Hall of Famer here.

Looking deeper into Marino, the dude threw the hell out of the ball, but his comp% not all that impressive. 12 of his seasons less than 60% completions. He only had one season with a passer rating ovr a 100 and his career passer rating.....86.4.

He had Clayton/Duper who would make anyone look better than they were.

Duper a 9,4 sprinter at NWLa. NCAA 4x1 champion.

We always hear/heard about how Wilson had BEASTMODE/LEGION OF BOOM, why don't we hear....Bradshaw had Franco, THE STEEL CURTAIN, Stallworth/Swann. Montana had Bill Walsh, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Unitas three Hall of Fame receivers. Bart Starr had 8 future Hall of Fames surounding him.

Wilson never had a stud TE, never had a great All Pro WR, yet his numbers are outstanding.

Ah....looking like he finally has some receivers.

That was weak better yet terrible, yes Wilson has been talked about as an MVPer, you can't read?

Dude. throw in the towel this is getting sad, you need to read and learn, ok rookie?
How has someone who has never received a vote for MVP in MVP discussions. Not an opinion, the actual discussion. Thrown in the towel for what, you have proven wrong time over time on your thread on who has had a better first 9 seasons.

I guess if you penalize Marino for not starting, but sure.

I got to thinking about league averages each year. Turns out Wilson's 33,946 passing yards over his nine years is actually 56 yards less than the league average over those years. His 267 passing TDs are 40 more. His 394 sacks are 55 more.

His TDs are okay, but what he really excels at as a passer is not throwing INTs. The league average over his nine years is 123, and he's only thrown 81. That alone really boosts his passer rating. Apart from the INTs he's a pretty ordinary passer, with his advantage in TDs being largely offset by his sacks.
