Cost them 16 million in cap space and 21 million in dead money if they trade him before June 1st, you think that is smart? Lets not kid our self money matter to both parties and money wise trading him before the draft make no sense. So either they get a offer that makes it worth eating all this money or they hold tight. Not a lot of teams can afford to make that kind of offer and it's dubious if it would be wise to do so. FYI if he gets traded to the Jets the state of New York has a 8.82 % state income tax for those making over a million a year vs Texas who has no state income tax. Bet NY is not on the list of teams that Watson would agree to be traded for. I don't see a trade happening because money matter to both sides.
Watson loves the hire of Saleh and spends a lot of time there. They are definitely on the list.

Them and the Dolphins. Among others.

it is insane to think the QB should have any say in the GM.

How does that question go?
So Mr. Qb. Who do you want to have as a Gm to be a yes man to you? So we can be more successful.
Also no. the team hasnt done any wrong, if that isnt in the contract.
Entitlement is an ugly thing, & he isnt entitled to make those decisions.
Sure it is crazy but why in the hell do you invit him to dinner to discuss and then say, “nah, we don’t need your opinion even though we asked for it”. Both sides sre wrong here and have faults but the Texans would be very stupid letting him sit and his value dropping dramatically. They have proved to be an awful franchise but no way they will be stupid enough to do that. Businessman should not let feelings get in the way of a business move that could slingshot your rebuild in a big way from all that you can get from a Watson trade. Watson doesn’t want to be there and it is too late to fix it. Move on

I like the people who get pissed at a player for wanting a trade or asking for a release, but also don’t get mad when a team releases a player who is still under contract.

At NY tax rate it would cost Watson almost 14 million in additional taxes on his 156 million contract if he gets traded to NY. Fans always think huge sums of money mean nothing to athletes cause their "rich". History shows that they certainly do care. I'd bet his agent would explain how he's paying 14 million just to play on the Jets and that would get nixed.

I would say the Texans are the new Browns, but the Browns haven't had a franchise qb since otto graham.

Most players of note have guarantees in their contract that the team has to pay to drop a player that isn't performing up to his contract and it's truly amazing how often performance drops once a player hits the jackpot. Once you got the money to do things you only dreamed about, your going to do them. Exotic vacations, travel in rented jets, women hitting on you all the time, get hit by all the leaches who want a piece of your money, all the charities who tell you that a donation to their cause would be awesome, taking care of family members you care about, fending off family members you don't want to take care of.
All that makes it difficult to put in the same work as when you didn't have the money and it usually shows on the field. Maybe all contracts should be tied to actual production.....? IDK it's a tough situation for players, teams and fans.

Right I get all that. I just find it hilarious that the players get a lot of backlash for requesting a trade or release or whatever. But when the front office releases a player at the drop of a hat all I hear is crickets. IMO you can’t have it both ways.

Well that is true and not true. If what has been alleged and Cal McNair told him he would have input into the new hiring process then he was shut out I can certainly understand Watsons feeling betrayed by what the Owner told him. Bottom line on that is you never ever insinuate anything along those lines Unless you mean it. Because other than a Coach you would like to play for most QB’s are not Qualified to even think about looking at the GM hiring. The Texans spent close to 300 thousand on a GM search with a hiring firm and then went and hired someone not even on the consideration list they paid for. WTH?
Normally I would be fully behind the ownership on this but if 1/2 of what I have read about the Texans is true they might be the most dysfunctional Team in the NFL.

Fans just want their team to have success so I totally understand why this happens.

The other side of the coin is a lot of players that are not cut, aren't playing up to their contract. Don't think any of them offered to give the money back.

For the record I don’t get mad or complain when either a player wants out or the team cuts them obviously it’s part of a business. I just think it’s funny that people get mad at one but not the other.

They’re usually released cause they suck at football

Well Watson wants out because the Texans suck at football.

True but he’s the outlier

players that request of demand out, usually have pretty selfish reasons
