But I fail to see what this has anything to do with social justice.

Because before he decided to join his team in the bubble, he was one of the ones talking about not playing because of social justice.

Did he leave to go join a protest?

Did he leave because he he got to the bubble and realized he didn't want to play because he decided his initial concerns were right and it does take away from the social justice message?

No, he claimed that he had a family emergency, then is seen in a strip club supposedly picking up an order of chicken wings that are named after him.

Who the hell goes to a strip club for the food, even if it's named after you?

I agree that just because he apparently left to go to a strip club or decided to stop there and get some wings on his way back to the bubble after dealing with his alleged family emergency doesn't mean that he doesn't take social issues seriously...

but it's definitely not a good look when you consider his original stance.

I agree that the rioters, looters and Lou Williams behavior shouldn't reflect on the people who are truly trying to work for change...

But that's not how it works.

I used to run a youth crime/gang diversion program where I would work with kids who were first time offenders and/or at risk for joining a gang.

One of the guys who worked with me was a former gang member. He used to tell the kids..."You are who you hang around with". He would say "You may not be in a gang, but if you're always hanging around gang members, don't be surprised if people treat you like you are".

When people who supposedly support BLM are rioting and looting and BLM isn't denouncing their actions and "policing their own" to make sure the protests remain peaceful, they can't really be shocked when people think that's what they're about.

there simply are not enough winner icons for this post. I’ll double down on the denouncing that is needed. You want to be taken seriously then you separate yourself from the bullshit goung on and you do it in any way possible. As for the league and some of the players, I’m sorry but the China thing hurts their cause as well, it just does.

It is a terrible look for Lou Williams and he deserves all the Heat he catches from this.

And let’s be very clear. There is no comparison between what Lou did and looting and rioting. 1 decision is immature and selfish, the other is criminal.

BLM absolutely should denounce the looting and rioting (many have). There is no reason to denounce a mistake that really only impacts a pro basketball team.

I have yet to see any BLM leadership denounce any of it. When the rioting first started, there were BLM rank and file members trying to stop it and I saw black folks who may or may not be affiliated with BLM yelling at rioters to stop.

But I haven't even seen any of that in a couple of weeks.

As for Lou Williams, at the very least, it makes him a little harder to take seriously since it now looks like his reason for not wanting to go into the bubble is the apparent lack of strip club chicken wings.

Also, many are questioning the NBA's credibility on social issues because their only comments on what goes on in China have been to go after the one person in the NBA who did speak up about China.
