Not sure if Beamer was truthful, but the vanilla playcalling was brought up on TTL and his response was basically that we have been playing with our full playbook. Sad if true.

Think about it....Coach Beams has been around a long time and is a student of the school of "aw shucks, we'll be lucky to field a team". He got that from Jerry Claiborne who got it from Bear Bryant.

But DW4 said that we havnt and that there is a lot of stuff still yet to be put in. FWIW i'd take Wilsons word over franks (in this situation).

If the playcalling has been vanilla this year, what the hell was it last year?

I actually like our play calling so far this year(for the most part), but i know from the things i saw in the spring and summer that we have a lot more in the arsenal also.

Anybody seen this? Clemson's Offensive Coordinator disses Lane Stadium

To Morris, Lane just another stadium
Playing in the din of Lane Stadium for the first time Saturday should
be a breeze for a guy so cool he walked into the cathedral last season
and stole money from the collection plate.

There may only be a handful of louder venues in college football than
Virginia Tech’s, but few places command the solemnity and respect as
the home of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., with
its bronze statues of coaches Rockne, Leahy, Parseghian and Holtz and
the reminders of its seven Heisman Trophy winners and 11 national
champions.

Even an ole boy like Chad Morris, a year removed from Texas high
school, conceded it was worth pausing for a few moments as offensive
coordinator at Tulsa University last season during his first visit to
Notre Dame Stadium.

“I had (son ) Chandler with me,” Morris recalled Monday, “and we were
able to run around the stadium a little bit, kind of get all that out
of the system the day before, look around and think about all the
history that’s come out of South Bend.”

Next day he went back and beat the Fighting Irish, 28-27.

So, no, Lane Stadium on Saturday won’t intimidate Clemson’s offensive
coordinator.

“When the whistle blows and the clock starts running, it doesn’t
matter if you’re playing in Lake Travis or South Bend, Ind., or Death
Valley,” Morris said. “Football is football.”

That attitude has contributed to his seamless transition from
successful high school coach to major college assistant with a 14-3
record, including 4-0 this season with 15th-ranked Clemson. Two years
ago, Morris was a head coach in Lake Travis, Texas.

“It’s been an amazing run. I’m very blessed,” Morris said. “One of
these days when I’m sitting on the bench I may look back at that and
enjoy those times, but right now there’s no time to rest.”

Virgnia Tech isn’t Notre Dame, but its run as a member of the ACC has
been impressive, and Lane Stadium has certainly been a factor. Since
1996, Virginia Tech has a 101-17 record at home. Morris allows room
for due respect, but he coaches in fifth gear and expects no less from
his players.

“I keep hearing the last time Clemson went up there they got hit in
the mouth, a ‘how quickly can we get back to the bus deal,’ ” Morris said.

“It’s going to be a crazy atmosphere, like it is here,” he said. “If
you want to have a championship-caliber ball club, you’ve got to win
games on the road.

“We’ve proven we can play at a certain level at home. Now we’ve got to
take that on the road.”

The stadium will be amped for Frank Beamer’s 300th game as head coach,
with keys rattling and the bleachers sagging when 66,000 jump.

“It’s going to be a great heavyweight fight,” Morris said. “It’s going
to be who can withstand each other’s punch through the whole course of
the game.”

When did DW say this? We are going to need to open something up if Boykin and Davis aren't back at full strength. I wouldn't mind seeing JO in the backfield with DW lining up as the slot receiver.

^sounds a lot like a guy who hasnt been to lane! No disrespect to ND but 1) ND stadium doesnt get near as long or as energized as lane and 2) I doubt ND v/s tulsa was much of an atmosphere inspiring game.

It was during his interview, actually i think that is how they set the question up when they asked beamer (could be wrong about that) but 100% thats what DW said.

Cant remember it word for word but he said something like "there are some formations and things in the current formations that we havnt put in yet".

Morris' last stop, Tulsa, had the following schedule for 2010:

Date Opponent* Result Record
Sept. 5, 2010 at East Carolina L 51-49
Sept. 11, 2010 Bowling Green W 33-20
Sept. 18, 2010 at OK State L 65-28 Stadium holds 60,218
Sept. 25, 2010 Central Ark W 41-14
Oct. 2, 2010 at Memphis W 48-7
Oct. 9, 2010 at SMU L 21-18
Oct. 16, 2010 Tulane W 52-24
Oct. 30, 2010 at Notre Dame W 28-27 Stadium holds 80,795
Nov. 6, 2010 Rice W 64-27
Nov. 13, 2010 at Houston W 28-25
Nov. 20, 2010 Texas-El Paso W 31-28
Nov. 26, 2010 Southern Miss. W 56-50
Dec. 24, 2010 Hawaii W 62-35

Tulsa got killed on the road at Oklahoma State, the second largest stadium in which Morris has coached.

Tulsa beat Notre Dame at South Bend later in the season, but due the the fact the Irish had lost to Navy the previous week making their record 4-4, I doubt seriously there were more than 60,000 die-hards in the stands.

By the way, Morris, the last NC won by Notre Dame was in 1988...twenty-three years ago.

If anything, the Morris article just ought to serve as a little extra fuel for what should be an already electric atmosphere. But at the same time, the last coach I can remember to dis Lane Stadium came out with a W after his comments. Jagz from BC.

Bo Pelini from Neb was the last one and they lost.

It was on TTL the other night, basically DW said that there are formations and other things that Tech hasn't done yet. They are still adding things to the offense.

Anyone else noticing that a few of the Clemson players seem to be talking too much already?

Clemson preparing to handle Tech's raucous environment OrangeandWhite.com

QUOTE:

"We expect to win", senior right tackle Landon Walker said. "We don't expect the fans, the crowd noise to affect the way we do things.

...and...

For us to go in there and win at Virginia Tech, that's going to be something. The plane ride back is going to be fun for all of us."

Is this the guy that will be attempting to block Gayle?

QUOTE:

"Hopefully, if we score fast enough and often enough, it might be a little quiet in there" Boyd said. "You never know what's going to happen in the course of the game. It's going to be a challenge."

I have changed my prediction a little bit, the only thing that is going to hurt us in this game is ourselves. I think that Watkins will score a TD, but I do not think that he is going to do whatever he wants on the VT D. If LT can control the game, and we can get some formations in with DW and JO in at the same time, we can win the game pretty easily. If the run game is established Clemson better watch out.

Keep talking Clemson. Between that and the ESPN lovefest for the Tigers, motivation shouldn't be much of a problem. BTW, is it supposed to rain Saturday? Because all the pre-game hype from the four-letter reminds me of the 2009 game with Miami.

Doesn't look like rain in the forecast. 56 and partly sunny is what it is showing right now.

That Miami game was probably the 2nd most fun game I've been to. Nebraska game takes the cake.
