Jesus Christ, you're probably one of those idiots who believes in the chemical imbalance theory. Do you like being so wrong about things you know nothing about?I disagree with you on everything in this post, but other than that, excellent post.
Essentially, you don't know if antidepressants work or not for everyone. Your blanket statement lacks any kind of proof.
Since then, the research and controversy has seesawed back and forth. Cochrane Collaboration research in 2009, from the found that SSRIs and TCAs were effective in 1 in 7 patients, at best.
A large systematic review published in JAMA Psychiatry in October 2017 analyzed the results of 17 studies, which included 6,778 children and teens with depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. The reviewers’ conclusion: “SSRIs and SNRIs are more effective than placebo; however, the effect is small and disorder-specific, yielding a larger effect for anxiety disorder than for other conditions. Response to placebo is large, especially in depression. Serious adverse events are significantly more common in SSRIs and SNRIs than placebo.”
The consensus seems to be that around 40 to 50 percent of individuals do not improve on antidepressants, and antidepressants are slightly more effective than placebo in treating depression.
Do Antidepressants Really Work?
The majority of people who are helped by antidepressants (which is the minority of people who take the medicine) only see their benefits due to the placebo effect. Take that away, there's no improvement. A very small portion of people are truly helped by SSRI's/SNRI's.
When you waste a shit-ton of money, get no help, get awful side effects, and are unable to quit them due to horrendous withdrawal effects, you can tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about.
Until then, shut the fuck up.
