Rarely do you see a pro make two such huge errors on one hole though. As far as the other three Majors nothing ever comes close to the Masters. It is special even among the Majors.
He did play very well on Sunday but that's easy to do when you know you are out of it and just free-wheel it. I don't believe for a second though that he did not know he was tied for the lead after the 16th hole as he claims. His entire style of play changed at that point.
He barely missed a doable par putt on a hole almost nobody birdied today.

Surprising. The pin was in its usual easy Sunday position in order to facilitate some drama. The putts were just missed either from the pressure or the player had already given up and didn't give a shit (Rahm). Fowler had no problem.

Just about anybody who was close enough to have a chance missed it on the same side. Most people weren't that close because it is protected by the bunker.

Man, I've been watching the Masters for decades and that pin is easily accessible. Players forever have been hitting it past the hole and letting it draw back down the hill. The bunker is not even in play. That's why you never see anyone hit it in that bunker.

It's a great course but it's stuffy and self-important. This is my least favorite of the 4 and nothing comes close to the US Open for me.

I gotta admit that that is true. But they got a good thing and they know it; the greatest sporting event of the year. To me the U.S. Open is definitely up there as the 2nd most important tournament in the world but its also the most boring. The USGA's insistence on par being the winning score makes it a snooze fest.
The Masters sets up the pins on the back nine on Sunday so that there are always guys battling it out with brilliant play. It never fails.
Its unmatchable among golf tournaments and the place is like heaven on earth when you walk in there; the world is left behind.

I sat there a good chunk of the day. It was hit out of quite a bit.

Not in the last two hours that I saw. If it was, it was a horrible mis-hit or someone who does not know how to play that course. But if you were sitting there most of the day, I am extremely jealous.
Seriously though I cannot remember any shot of consequence from that bunker in years. The good players know there is no reason to be anywhere near it.

The players attacking the hole with nothing to lose were the ones flirting with it. Hell, Reed didn't miss it by much.

To be fair I was actually standing there rather than sitting.....

Well - they apparently did on their last rd (or came close). Oh well - who cares. There were lots of other players who did well & made it fun to watch. Good event (contrary to what you hear some of the talking heads saying today but again they are there to stir things up & fuel those dumb sports talk shows).

What is their argument that it wasn't good?

That was a fun finish yesterday. Reed kept teasing Rory on the front 9, but never completely faltered and McIlroy faded on the back. Spieth and Fowler comeback attempts added some drama on the back nine, but at the end of the day Patrick got his green jersey and it was well deserved. He played well all 4 days.

But lets not forget that Augusta make's a deal with the notworks to show only 4 minutes of commercials for every hour of golf shown. Augusta has to eat the cost the lost ad revenue.

Compare that to the scam the NFL has pulled on us. They have made the commercials as popular as the game itself.

What is great about Augusta is it's history and tradition. And at the same time it's changing the things that are not so great about it's history & traditions.

It's time to applaud Augusta National for giving women's golf a prominent platform

Welp, Reed 2018 Master's Champion! I am not a fan of his but hats off to him... Spieth cost himself a lot of money with that missed putt on 18.... Granted it's still a very decent payday.

Oh come on, you can't look at it that way

Spieth went 8 under with Sunday pins at Augusta ...a nearly impossible feat.
His round of -8 made Rory's round of 2 over inexcusable.

You turned out to be right. I was shocked that Spieth was able to momentarily tie for the lead from 9 behind. He choked at the end but did well until then. Fowler hung tough as well. But I was surprised at how many guys had a shot still with just a few holes left. I thought it would be just Reed and McIlroy. I did not expect McIlroy to collapse so badly.

Rory choked. Spieth almost had the best comeback in Master's history so a bad break on 18 (1 hole) is not choking. Spieth shot 64 on sunday at Augusta which is pretty dam stout.
