I have been around the game for a while even doing my fair share of coaching and there are always moments as a coach, prent, or player that just make an embarassment of the sport or the affiliation being dealt with. I wanted to hear some others experiences to see how bad it can be in other places, so i will try to keep it as brief as possible.
As a senior in high school I was the head coach of a team who got called for an infield fly rule when the ball was at the height of the pitchers head. When I questioned the ump he asked if I needed to see the rulebook. Apparently he just discovered this new rule and was eager to try it out. Later he called a ball that was 10 feet foul a fair ball, but not before standing and staring at it for a solid 10 seconds allowing an inside the park homerun because he did not verbally say fair, but used an arm.
The next story is a gem. My 5 year old nephew played in a championship tball game (so to clarify, a competitive rec Tball game in a town that has crap for baseball talent) they intentionally walked a player... That's right, they told the ump they wanted the kid to take first base, and better yet the ump allowed it. Embarrassing
Last story, I go down to Alabama to see my cousin and his 8 year old kid is playing. The kid says and I quote,"Daddy I don't know how we are going to beat this team, they have the 5th ranked player in the state." As in, they assign rankings to 8 year old kids to evaluate how good they are... They also had 6 year olds playing at 60 feet bases to further the point of how much an embarrassment this is. If the kids weren't playing pitch and fetch they were running a ground ball from first to third to try and get outs instead of making throws.
