Yankees Sign Ellsbury

Per, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick... the NY Yankees have signed FA OF Jacoby Ellsbury to a 7yr deal.

No numbers released as yet but, the deal is believed to be worth more than the 142M that OF Carl Crawford got from the Boston Red Sox in 2010.

Sigh... How is that new collective bargaining agreement working out for all of you?

Yankees get C McCann - OF Ellsbury & in the end, they will probably keep 2B Robinson Cano too.

The numbers I have heard on Ellsbury's deal with the Yankees... 7yrs 153M ( 22M per, yr. )

That is a crazy number for a player that is injured a lot (I guess they didn't read the memo on Carl Crawford type contracts).

Just think they could have coughed up 50 million more and kept Cano.

Ellsbury, injuries aside, is likely to age fairly well. Even so, that is a hefty pricetag (way too hefty) for what he'll bring to the team for the duration of the deal.

If that's the market for starting outfielders this offseason, it is going to be very difficult for the Pirates to make a play at the position. Now I'm extra curious as to what kind of deal Choo will command...
