My brother (a Giant fan) actually came up to me and said JPP was better then Justin Smith. I had no other response then "you are retarded and if you are that far off, there is no point in even debating this". So I did something better. I went to BSPNs Giants board and posted for their opinion. The first two were actually gushing over Smith. Then the next guy posted something like "Do you even watch JPP games?" I let him know that I watch every football game every Sun at the sportsbooks so I've seen just about every game. I also reminded him that JPP isn't even their best linemen and half his sacks are garbage sacks left over from Tuck/Osi.

Then this one guy (I presume a mod) posted how I don't know football and JPP is light years ahead of Justin Smith. On top of that, banned me from the forum. Jesus, are NYers delusional or what?

It's hard to compare the two because they play in different systems. A 3-4 DE is more of a DT than an all out pass rusher like JPP is.

justin smith can play any position on the line in a standard 4-3. might not put up double digit sacks but pro bowl play year after year. i've heard some say he's been the best defender on our team and with the play of willis/bowman, that is saying a lot.

Ask him if JPP has singlehandedly put away 2 games for his team like J Smith has. Justin's arguably the best DL in the NFL, and there are plenty of knowledgable football people who aren't 49er homers who will tell you the same thing.

PS: I dunno if you wanted my help, but I put up my 2c on that thread and basically told them that JPP is one-dimensional compared to J Smith, and that their impression of themselves as smarter and better-looking than you is, like the Gnats' chances of going anywhere in the playoffs, all in their mind.

JPP gets the courtesy of picking up sacks because of Tuck and Osi, like you said. Justin Smith on the other hand allows more guys to get in and pick up the sacks for us. He also sets the edge better than just about anybody in the league which is something those particular Giants fans obviously don't know about. Oh and he closed out the Giants and Eagles games for us.

It doesn't really surprise you, does it? The East coast bias is actually out there in the media when it comes to evaluating teams and players. I'm sure those fans feel that way because all of their media feeds them that biased information and since it is so positive, they don't doubt it's authenticity.

It's like when I lived in Wisconsin. Their Packer beat writers would blow so much smoke up their asses that they were completely delusional. They'd write about how Robert Brooks' workout routine put Jerry Rice's to shame, because he'd run on a treadmill in a room with a/c, but it was extreme because he'd raise the incline. Or they'd write about how Mike Holmgren was actually the creator of the West Coast Offense, not Bill Walsh. I could probably list more, but I don't want to write 5 pages of examples for this...

The point is, some beat writers are completely irresponsible when it comes to promoting their own players and coaches for the fans that they pretty much lead the fans on about how nobody in the league can match up with what their players or coaches are doing... and since they want to hear that, they believe in it 100%. By the way, the irresponsible beat writer for the Packers who wrote a lot of that garbage was none other than ESPN's own Bill Williamson... which is pretty much why I don't read any of his stories on ESPN today.

One of my roommates is from NY and he's a huge Giants fan, so this thread made me laugh because he & I have been having this argument for about the past 6 weeks.

Luckily he can't ban me from the house.

I am a NYer myself. I can attest to everything that you're saying is the truth. I phucking hate talking sports with them. I had an orgasm last week when we sh8tted on the Giants.
