You can never have too many knives.
The title says it all.
With Cleveland in full tank for the 2014 draft/rebuild mode, everyone is on the trade block in Cleveland. Get it done. Thomas' cap hit would be $10 mil this season if traded. The Cardinals have about $5.3 mil in cap room. If they package Levi "turnstile" Brown with a 1st & 4th, this should get a deal done. We would incur a $4.2 mil cap hit for Brown in 2014, but I think he would be worth it.
Thomas is only 28 & signed through 2018 at a reasonable amount for the top LT in the NFL.
2013 10,000,000
2014 10,900,000
2015 8,800,000
2016 8,300,000
2017 8,800,000
2018 8,800,000
That would also be his cap numbers. And only about $1-1.5 more than we would be paying "turnstile" each season through 2016.
I know many people don't like to subscribe to trading away 1st round draft picks, but this is how you get impact players. And lets be realistic, the pick will likely be in 12-18 range anyways, just outside where the big time impact players will be drafted. The left side of the O-line would be on lock-down for the next 6 years. If Palmer continues to play well, this would allow them after the season to extend him beyond 2014. This would also free up the GM to not have to worry about the O-line again this off-season & make improvements in other areas.
