After a brief, but pleasant visit to Cleveland -the Sox move on to Detroit with Giolito on the mound. A three game set on the Division hill the Sox need to climb. The Sox look tough when they bomb some homers - so let's see some of those.

We start the season with a finished Keuchel and get punished for it minimally because we luckbox into Cueto…and STILL will miss the playoffs. Impressive disappointment.

What is scary to me is where do they even go from here? What is the problem that can be solved without blowing up the core?

I'd start with reducing soft tissue injuries - which is due to poor strength and conditioning technique. Guys like Eloy and Robert need to be regulars in the lineup - like Abreu plays.

It's difficult not to lay the massive drop in power numbers at anyone's door but the hitting coach.

A manager who can instill some hustle and baseball situational awareness to this team.

The player I'm most down on is Moncada. He fields his position well, but what explains his drop from 3rd in the league in batting to a guy who battles with hitting above .200? Also - I can't explain why Moncada seems to just waive at balls from the outfield when he is the cutoff man or there's a play at 3rd - I don't know what that is, but it looks lackadaisical.

Leury Garcia has had some nice years with the White Sox, but this last one was not one of them. The Sox need to move on from him - Cairo's main contribution to managing the Sox has been making Leury disappear.

If Moncada and Leury are gone the Sox need to add some lefty batting power (again or still).

All fine ideas, but from a roster construction perspective are you comfortable running this team back more or less as is?

If the problem is a team culture - shake up the roster - if not tweak the roster.

Guys I'd get rid of:

Joe Kelly
Moncada
Leury Garcia
TLR & coaches

White Sox would have to work back to no worse than even with Cleveland before they finish the season with 6 at home against KC.

Not much room

Imagine, winning a game tonite and still losing ground to the 1st place team. Like I've often said, life sucks, then you die.

Sox get the W = take the series. Vaughn takes the team lead in RBIs with 73 after a grand salami. Twins beat Cleveland - Sox pick up game now 3.5 out.
