Chris Russell just reported that Gruden now realize the team they inherited is a mess. Five years ago Shanahan inherited a mess. Two years ago the team won the NFC East. Did Shanahan win with a mess? Is the current team a mess? Seems like their are more offensive weapons now and if anything the team should be improved. Shanahan won the division title with a $16 million dollar cap penalty.

What does this team have and if it is a mess how did they win a div. title?

The 2012 team was 3-6. Shanny stated publicly that it was time to evaluate the players. That comment, as much as RGIII's play, could be responsible for the 7 game win streak to end the season.

Apart from that 7 games, this team has been a complete mess for both of the Zorn years, 3/4 of the Shanny years, and this year. So... complete mess for 6 out of 7 years, sans one 7 game win streak.

Yeah, that's what team we have.

Shanahan also had 3 losing season out of 4. The best thing he did was get Dan to upgrade Redskin Park with "state of the are equipment and facilities" Great to see all those things are having a direct improvement in the teams' performance.

Snyder needs to stick to just writing checks. (Once approved by others that the checks need to be written) No more Haynesworth type players. Build up that O-line and D-line, then fix the secondary.

This team is not a mess. The people are. We have a lot of talent but poor leadership on the team, on the coaching staff, and in the organizational side are the causes for poor performance.

Uh......we have a team?......Great!!.... If the NFL expands into L.A. maybe this team that you speak of, will petition the league to upgrade them to NFL status, thereby expanding on both coasts! !

The organization is a mess because we lack depth and have arguably the worst team culture in professional sports. That is not changing, because it comes from the top.

The fact that Redskins tickets were selling online for $3 and $4 gave me an idea though...

The only way this franchise shows real improvement is if Daniel Snyder is out of the picture. Maybe if fans start to boycott the team, Snyder will get hit where it hurts. If he loses enough $, then he will eventually be forced to sell.

It would take a massive coordinated effort, but I for one am sick and tired of watching a once proud franchise flounder and I know others feel the same way. We all know that Snyder is the issue, so why do we continue to give him our hard earned money?

It is not just Haynesworth though...

Every year they have to overpay for a shiny new toy. The RG3 trade was the same basic principal. Trading a premium pick to a division rival for McNabb? You think the Eagles would have done that if they thought he had anything left?

Even this year, while I like Desean Jackson, the team had bigger needs to address and needed to spend that $ elsewhere.

What you are describing are symptoms of a team that is retooling as compared with rebuilding. Retooling is where you add a big name or two when you are very close to being a solid contender. This type of approach would be good for a team like the Rams who are solid overall but could use say a real solid QB.

On the other hand the Redskins need to go into full on rebuild mode. Forget players - first start with ensuring that you have the right scouts, players, philosophy, etc. Even if they retain Allen & Gruden there are numerous ways that they can improve in these areas. Start by honestly evaluating what you are doing wrong & then proceed to emulate other successful teams.

From there stick to a plan that focuses on obtaining, retaining & developing young talent. All three of these are areas where the Redskins have been dreadful over the recent past. Also - as many have indicated numerous times - focus on the lines on both sides of the ball.

Do I believe that most/all of this will occur? No especially given Snyder's impatience and disdain for the fans of this team. We can only hope.

Meant to say right scouts, coaches & philosophy. Oh well - what does it matter - they aren;t going to change things anyhow & most of us will still come back for more next season regardless of how they mismanage the situation.
