when buying a used car...what is the highest mileage you would consider buying?

I'm still thinking about a 2nd vehicle, something a little easier to tote the kiddo around in...

only problem is with what my price range would be, everything i can find seems to be pretty high mileage. What's your cutoff, do you have one?

I did just find this guy with 91k for $6,000 (makes me think something else may be wrong with it)

$6K sounds like too much a risk for a car with 90K on it. But I can't tell what the make and model is.

And I can't mechanic anything so if I buy used I like the Certified Pre-Owned through the dealership which are quite a bit more.

Seriously, mileage doesn't scare me off. Lots of engines can do 2 and 300K now. We bought a 2001 Hyundai three years ago that had 102K, paid $2,000 for it, and have since put another 40K on it. What's the year on that wagon?

Then that's pretty low miles for a fifteen year old car, right? I know little to nothing about Beamers, so I couldn't tell you if the 6K is too much or not. Giver a spin and then haggle? :noidea:

100k wouldn't bother me at all, but I wouldn't go too much higher than that. My Jeep Grand Cherokee is currently at 160,000 and still going strong.

That changes much. I saw the Chevy sign out front and figured low end american 4 bangers are about whipped at 100K.

If there's nothing scaring me on the maintenance record, like exile said, this car could have many miles left on it.

yeah, my old Tacoma had 168k when i sold it, my Wrangler is nearly the 100k mark, and i know, if properly maintained they can run for a good while...

i just get a little sketched about dropping that kind of loot on a vehicle that is already up there in mileage, and who knows how well maintained it was

My guess is it was a single owner, but check the title history to verify. If it was one owner, it was probably maintenanced properly and timely.

the only hard part about the 6k they are asking for it, is i still owe about 7500 on my jeep...two payments at once is going to be tough

Depending on the year of the Jeep and mileage, maybe you can get your bank to roll them into one loan, depending on interest rates.

I've had good luck with 60K.

My current car is the first brand new car I've ever purchased.

It's always worth negotiating. If you're a member of a credit union, that's where I'd start. Otherwise, go to the bank you use most often and get their terms. Then go to the dealer... give them the terms you have and see if they can either lower the price or get you a better loan. It's more often than not a win, when you can get the lower price and finance less, even if it's at a higher interest rate.
