Guess we're all too burned out to post about it. Solid showing for the Bengals. It looks like they tried to fix a few things on offense. Things run much smoother when they have Tee Higgins involved early and often. I think it might be time to have a conversation about Joe Mixon. Are we sure he's any good?

I was at the game so couldn’t do much posting.

I’ve seen enough of Mixon

I mentioned drafting Hall or Walker in the 1st round as an option this year.
Mixon's been a very good NFL RB but he's in his 6th season as a physical runner. This is when Rudi started slowing down too.

Perine just gets up a head of steam, runs downhill violently and makes one cut if necessary. Mixon spends too much time dancing behind the line of scrimmage like Leveon Bell used to. If you have a massive oline that are really good, that style can work very well. Our oline is not that type and it doesn't work with Pollack's run blocking scheme. Pollack's scheme is geared towards running backs that do what Perine does...violent downhill runner with one cut.

I was telling my wife yesterday as Perone was slicing the defense apart in that last drive, Mixon doesn't run like that and his numbers are suffering from it. Now there were plenty of runs the run blocking was complete crap and Mixon was lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage. That is not on him, that is on the oline. But you can see a stark difference in running styles and which one works best for us.

I think the other issue with Mixon is that he doesn't run particularly well from shotgun and he's an awful pass protector. I can't even imagine how a guy his size, with his athleticism could be so bad at it. I think the best offense you can run with Burrow would be out of a shotgun with a bunch of RPO, hitting running backs on check downs, getting the D to commit to stopping the shorter stuff and then take your shots. Mixon would do better in an offense like Cleveland's - Wide zone stuff with lots of bootlegs. He's just not a great fit for our scheme and its starting to limit what we can do.

How were the Jets fans? Were we represented well?

There were a lot of bengals fans there. I was quite surprised. Everyone was pretty decent. There was some trash talking while walking through the tailgates/parking lot, but it was all in good fun.
Midway thru the second half, they started cheering for Mike White.

Running Back was one of my concerns in the offseason.

Perine just isn't great.
Evans isn't getting playing time, because he's more of a specialist than an every down back. There was some hope that he could spell some relief for Nixon.

if they evaluated someone for injury, it may be worth giving Traveon some snaps, or maybe even finding a RB in the free agent pool who can help.
