Series preview: Mets vs. Nationals - Mets Blog - ESPN New York

FIRST PITCH: The Mets thought Rafael Montero was ready in May. Turned out he wasn't.

The Mets think Rafael Montero is ready now. We'll find out if they're right this time, starting Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals.

Montero rejoins the rotation for the 7:10 p.m. start, taking the place of Jacob deGrom, who went on the disabled list Monday with rotator cuff tendinitis.

The first time he was here (taking Jenrry Mejia's rotation spot when Mejia was sent to the bullpen), Montero went 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts, with 11 walks in 20 innings. He returned to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he's 6-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 15 starts.

Thank god CY is gone. They gave him a chance towards the end but he still stunk. Good riddance.

Well, I'm afraid this won't be a good series for us....we're already down 2-0 in the 2nd inning of game 1.

Why doesn't that mother fucking idiot mgr of ours start eric young jr against this righty? He can get on base, steal to get into scoring position for the bigger bats. But no....we just meander, and go through the motions....FFS.

Can't stand TC. Hope he's gone at season's end.

Is TC talking about playing the spoiler in this article ??
If he truly wants this team to reach the postseason, he'll need to remove his head from his rear end 1st & foremost.

YIKES!!!

NEW YORK -- Terry Collins has stopped talking about catching the Washington Nationals, but the New York Mets manager insisted again Tuesday that he hasn't given up on making a run at the playoffs this season.

In fact, he almost guaranteed it.

"I'm really excited, because I think September's going to mean something," Collins said.

It's a little hard to see how it will.

The Mets enter play Tuesday in fourth place in the National League East, 7.5 games behind the Nationals as the teams begin a three-game series. They're slightly closer in the NL wild-card race (six games behind), but with more teams to pass and fewer head-to-head opportunities to make up ground.

General manager Sandy Alderson said he agrees with his manager, but he also said finishing at or above .500 is "definitely a goal of ours." The Mets began play Tuesday five games below break-even. They haven't been above .500 (or even at .500) since the first week of May, and they haven't finished a season above .500 since 2008.

Not only that...it's also our pitchers always seem afraid to pitch inside to those pricks for some reason....and our hitters don't work the count against their pitchers. Too damn easy for them to control the flow of the game and keep momentum.....not to mention our clueless skipper failing to make the necessary adjustments.

Collins sure is clueless. I think our lineup gets exposed for what it is. Too many minor league hitters in the lineup.

Hahahaha....7-0 now.....smh

Montero should be packaged & dealt in the offseason......fuck Torres too.

TC is a goddamn fool.

"Offense" is lethargic and flat out terrible way too often.

Just another shit fest in the long line of disappointing losses.

I had to post this gem again, just because it's so damn funny.....

They haven't been above .500 (or even at .500) since the first week of May, and they haven't finished a season above .500 since 2008.

"We know perception is reality," Alderson said. "Certain things change perception."

The only way the Mets play games "that mean something" in September will be in the spoiler role. Finishing .500 would be a major step and accomplishment...but even doing that is gonna be a tall order.

NEW YORK

FIRST PITCH: Are the Mets ever going to beat the Nationals at Citi Field?

Yes, ever is a long time. Yes, the Mets technically have beaten the Nationals at Citi Field.

Just not anytime recently.

The Nationals have a nine-game winning streak in Queens, a streak the Mets wouldn't mind putting an end to when Bartolo Colon (11-9, 3.97) takes the mound on Wednesday night. Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann (7-5, 3.06) starts for the Nationals.

Zimmermann is only 3-2 in eight career starts at Citi. Dillon Gee beat him 2-0 in April 2013, in a rare Mets home win over Washington. Since Sept. 12, 2011, the Mets are 4-23 at home against the Nationals.
