Well it looks like his run is over in Pittsburgh. Be interresting to see if they bring up Locke or Cumpton to take his spot. I would go with Cumpton, but they might prefer to have another lefty in the rotation.

I don't think it was a bad trade. They got some value out of him. Grossman is the only one of the three prospects who might have a solid career.

They should not have counted on him to be one of their 5 starters.

Agreed on the trade. It was a good move at the time, it's just run its course.

While I agree they didn't give up much for him, I would have expected more than 165 IP total for 2 seasons. Especially with how much cash they ended up wasting. Didn't they end up paying him around 20 million not including what the Astros threw in? That's a lot of cash for what they got out of him. Small market teams can't afford those types of mistakes. Maybe I liked Grossman more than others. Owens and Cain were warm bodies at best.

I guess that isn't a horrible trade but I would hardly categorize it as a good one.

It was a good trade at the time, but in retrospect, it didn't work out to the pirates advantage as the performance was not equal to the money plus prospects we gave away.

At the time, know one would know that a durable #3 would do ok for a handful of starts, but then be very fragile for the next 2 years.

Well I hated the trade at the time, but it has worked out in the Pirates favor, the prospects they sent over have been next to nothing, and Wandy was good here until this season.
