If it doesn't have an electric fuel pump, it may take a little while to fill the bowls in the carb up with gas.

Getting it to kick over with starter fluid will work, but be careful about shooting it straight down the carb. Be easy with it.

I have a bucket truck that has been sitting for a few months. I tried to start it yesterday. It would crank and crank but would not turn over.
After checking the gas, it was getting dark so I went inside.
I think I will first try spraying a bit of starter fluid in the carb. Is that what you would suggest?
I'm not much of a engine tinkerer besides changing the oil, plugs and minor stuff like that.

It's a 1985 C30 V8 5.7L gas engine

My friend @Dolemite censored says it could be low tire pressure. Have you checked that?

Pee in the gas tank.

That should take care of the issue.

If it has been sitting for a while you could have some bad gas. Ethanol gas gums up after sitting a while. This can cause a blocked fuel filter and plugged carb jets. I recommend siphoning the gas out and replace with fresh, and replacing the filter. I'd also run some Gumout through the system.
