He was on Saban's staff at LSU for 4-5 seasons.

He was the recruiting coordinator there.

While he struggled as a HC at Tenn, he's a very good recruiter

If Dooley came on board I don't see him taking anything less than OC. I don't think he would want to take a demotion any bigger than that. So can he be an OC?

As for Stinespring being a HC somewhere, I don't think that's such a bad hire. He just needs to stay away from the OC position or anything on defense and he'd be an asset to a program

Well, we can probably forget about getting Franklin now. Sonny Dykes just named head coach at Cal. Franklin will either head to Cal or become LaTech HC.

So according to @footballscoop, tony Franklin is likely headed to cal with sonny dykes (no surprise there) .. Not saying that we will get a new offensive coord but assuming we will, who would everyone presume would be up on the list?

Odu head coach or OC come up too but I dunno if that would work

I hope not. I'd rather have someone who is younger, hasn't been out of the game for years, and actually will recruit.

Fuck the fridge, and all of those old people. The last thing VT needs is to get older

Just tossing it out there, its not based on any valid rumors, but why not look into someone from Kansas St? They run similar sets to us with Klein (some under center, some shotgun, some pistol) but obviously have a clue how and when to call them

I dont think any current BCS OC would come to VT to stay as OC.

Tom Herman from Ohio State. Give him the opportunity to call his own offense again after spending the season watching over Urban's offense.

I tend to agree with this, but that is why I would make a pitch for Herman since he was a very successful OC and then joined a staff where he wasn't calling his own offense (or any plays) anymore. See if a raise and a chance to be sole playcaller again would get him to move.

The one year with Luke Fickle it was bad but with Tressell it was a good offense. They would have ~2500 yards passing and ~2400 yards rushing each year and scored plenty of points

I wouldn't mind Friedgen. He's a proven offensive mind. Frank would probably trust him enough to give him autonomy. Not a flashy hire, but as close ot a sure thing as we could get.

I could get on board with that rather easily. He knows the recruiting of the area some already too. I feel like we could make a big splash in recruiting with a sexier hire but i think the recruiting will keep getting better either way

Like has been said, OLD, and probably not the best recruiter either. This staff needs to get younger

He's 65 right now. It seems silly to knowingly hire someone who would most likely coach for < 5 years
