ASU will forever amaze me how they are not dominant in athletics. At least UNC has basketball to fall on, but ASU doesn't do anything.UNC reminds me a bit of UCLA/Arizona St. They put out some decent players (NFL) but they just can't seem to get over the hump as far as owning in football.
I still don't get the Herm Edwards hire. It might pan out but it just seems like a strange hire. With that said ASU used to have some knockout baseball teams but even that's been awhile now.ASU will forever amaze me how they are not dominant in athletics. I heard the ASU AD is pretty tight with Edwards and that's why he was hired. The AD is going to go down with Edwards if that hire doesn't pan out. Hell of a gamble if you ask me.Yeah them and Arizona used to have great baseball teams. I get the theory behind Edwards role, but it only works out if he hires some awesome coordinators and I don't see that happening. Although I get the theory and philosophy behind his position, I don't see why ASU needed to be the one who tried it out.
Not a ton of instate talent and the guys that are good almost always leave. The rabid fan base that would demand better results doesn’t really exist. Lot of transient students from out of state. No history of winning to get hyped about. They just hired Herm fucking Edwards lolASU will forever amaze me how they are not dominant in athletics. Yeah maybe the instate players are sick of living in the desert, but you have prime destination for out of state players in Tempe, enormous student body. Just seems like there is a lot there at ASU to pitch and recruit to.Not a ton of instate talent and the guys that are good almost always leave. The state of Arizona puts out some decent players and ASU used to recruit heavy out of Southern California (right across the state line). Lately though teams like Washington, Stanford, and a few others have been picking that state dry of their top players. Not a ton of instate talent and the guys that are good almost always leave. SC recruits a lot of talent out of Zona a few other big schools do as well. I do think the wildcats have the strongest shot at the south this year pending how SC transitions. And how tate plays. But they gotta find a way to keep in stat recruits imoNot a ton of instate talent and the guys that are good almost always leave. Trips across the pass to eastern Washington & eastern Oregon used to remind me of what the moon would look like.Yeah maybe the instate players are sick of living in the desert, but you have prime destination for out of state players in Tempe, enormous student body. The only thing I can think of is that they have tried other coaches and nothing has worked.
Maybe bringing in a guy who is essentially an outsider but still a familiar face, will work for them.
They're in the process of finishing their stadium remodel, decent facilities, hot chicks who love to fvk, right outside of Phoenix ... but I can't remember an ASU football coach owning it since Frank Kush. But I still don't see how ASU can't attract a big name known successful coach. More so than a player/recruit, I would think Tempe/ASU would be a great spot for a coach.
For about 20 years now, the term 'Sleeping Giant' is Arizona State.

There's a few programs like that. Washington with Don James, Tennessee with Fulmer, Michigan with Schembechler, etc ...That may be part of the problem too. My entire family (other than me) are ASU fans and literally every coach gets compared to Frank Kush and comes up short in their eyes. A lot of the older ASU fans and boosters are like that.
