LA Woman is overrated but most of their other stuff is pretty damm good.

Jim Morrison (and John Lennon) as "poets" are overrated

I thought his two books were pretty good. Not that I am some poetry expert er nothin.

Personal choice, I guess. Roadhouse Blues and Riders on the Storm rank up there also

Concur with the song writing prowess. But I really don't like to hear him sing

His singing has always been a problem for me too. It's always been pretty bad even by rock singer standards. He makes Johnny Cash sound like Pavarotti. I love his music, though, and don't consider him overrated.

Alex Chilton. His subsequent band, Big Star, was one of the all-time cult classic bands, totally awesome but never made it big.

Ehh...I don't care to defend Morrison too much, but he DOES have some actual poems that are somewhat better than their song lyrics.

I'm on record earlier in the thread, though: Robby Kreiger was the true genius behind the doors.
How 'bout Manzerek? Wasn't he the band leader and writer of most of the music?

I saw Jimmy Buffett make an appearance on this thread, and while I can see how people get turned away by Margaritaville and CHeeseburger in Paradise, but the dude has some good songs(A Pirate Looks at 40, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Come Monday, etc)

I agree. I have the Boats, Bars, Beaches and Ballads Cd set. Pretty good stuff on the right days. Some of his less popular stuff is very good.

One of the funner concerts you'll ever attend as well.

Little trivia about Jimmy Buffett:

One of my all time favorites, Jerry Jeff Walker picked up a hitchhiking Buffett and drove him to Key West, and that's when Jimmy made it big.
