Naw, go for broke. Trade the better guys and get a better return. None of those guys will be ready to play at an All Star level on Opening Day anyway, so they don't have much use here do they, lol.

They’re going to be super important, more than ever, since we have so many guys on big $$ contracts. It will be very important that we retain about 90% of our top prospects

Would that make it a win?
No, it is too late for Spencer Howard being released to be seen as anything positive. Maybe an "it's about time," but that is about it.

Sure, then we can get another look at Ragans and Howard by early May.

I’m talking one of them..
let’s say Dunning
We would still have Otto, Odorizzi, Ragans,Kent & White

Pretty good deal..
the value is there..

Eovaldi will be paid $16MM salaries in each of the next two seasons, Grant reports (on Twitter). The deal contains a $2MM buyout on the 2025 option.

Evan mentions a good point by saying Dunning would be at a low point value-wise coming off of hip surgery.

If Odorizzi is counted on in the pen then he will not be able to replace anyone in the rotation. Maybe a spot start where he goes 3.1 innings, but that is about it.

Kent will not be ready for awhile.

White is almost a year away.

Ragans may be better about half way through the season, but early on he will perform about the way he did last year. He would most likely be the first guy up and then Spencer Howard. That is, if they need someone before the end of June or maybe even later.

I would not be surprised if the club has to trade for a catcher at the deadline, along with a DH and maybe a CF. I doubt Heim, Garver and Leody gets the job done offensively, compared to what they need to have enough offense to match the huge spending in the rotation. Then they will also need to trade for closer and maybe a set up man as well.

I will grade the acquisition as a "D." Eovaldi is not a bad pitcher, but he is a bad fit. His 2023 ERA of 3.90 to 4.20 will make him a decent to good pitcher, maybe a #4 or a great #5 on a WS team.

That's assuming he performs like he did last year when he was dealing with some nagging injuries and not like the guy he was even in 2021 when he was in the running for the Cy Young award.

Astros were 26th in offense from C, 29th at 1B
They traded for a C and a 1B and it didn’t help much lol

His career ERA is 4.16 and he will be 33 when the season starts. Between all of his injuries and Father Time catching up to him, I think that ERA expectation range is very reasonable.

That doesn't mean the Rangers will look at Houston's trouble at improving as prohibiting them to try and do it right.

Overall, due to what you expect out of Perez, I seem to be the optimistic one, between the two of us, when it comes to the rotation.

I had Heaney and Eovaldi with lower ERAs
You’re more optimistic on Perez, I’m more optimistic on the overall rotation
But I did put Perez down there just to pull your leg lol

It is definitely a risky signing.. his velocity has started to trend down. Let’s hope for the best

You are slightly mote optimistic on two guys and I am a ton more optimistic on Perez, so I wouldn't give you the Rotation Optimism award. Lol

If you do a weighted average by how many innings those guys will give you, that puts me even further ahead . lol

I like it, we have a good SP for the rotation and lots more depth than we have ever had.We haven't mortgaged the future by dealing a bunch of our prospects. Yes I think they will sign a RP but I dont think it will necessarily be the closer type. Yes I would have liked to retain Englert but you cant keep them all. I dont for the life of me know why Spencer Howard is still on the team but overall this is a good move for what it costs which is only money and if Davis is spending then I'll take it. It isn't Rodon but its a good move. Now finish what you started CY

Haha I’m thinking Perez finishes with a 3.89 ERA and gives us the most innings of any SP.
He will probably be the most important SP on the team

That could have been said for the rotation candidates already in the fold as well. It seems like most use a whole lot more optimisim on guys coming from outside the organization than they do for the ones from within. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the organizational fence.
