Compare to what Jeff Wilson said a few days ago.

What he sees in the lineup next year if no FA are signed..
Huff will catch in the minors next year. Heim and Trevino will be the catchers next year.
He goes with Lowe and Solak at 1B and 2B. Jung at 3B. He thinks if Jung had not gotten hurt that he would be up here already.
Peters in LF. Leody in CF and Garcia in RF.. A platoon with Ibanez and Calhoun at DH.
Leclerc at closer.

If they sign free agents and/or make trades he goes with:
Dunning, Hearn, Arihara, Sonny Gray, and Otto in the rotation.
Same catchers and same at 1B and 2B. Solak keeps seat warm for Foscue. Still Jung at 3B.
Trevor Story at SS. He already lives in Colleyville in the offseason.
IKF is a utility player.
Same players in the OF and same at DH and closer.
Arihara will be in a rotation but probably in Japan. just say no to Gray. think IKF gets traded as does Trevino with Huff and Heim at C. Ibanez and Hernandez bench. probably someone like Walker at DH. Leclerc & Calhoun gone

C Trevino
1B Lowe
2B IKF
3B Jung
SS Correa
LF Calhoun
RF Garcia
CF Peters
DH Castellanos

Bench: C Jonah Heim, INF Nick Solak, INF Andy Ibáñez, INF-OF Chris Taylor

Easily the best and potentially doable of the 3 above minus Castellanos which I doubt we could money whip.
The more I think about it the more Taveras needs more conditioning in the minors
Thinking realistically one pitcher to eat some innings

I wonder if we explore th trade market though. We have a bunch of backup catchers at best and Huff future is uncertain IMO

Basically I like most of the article. I am higher on IKF than most. Playing 2b is a great idea. Hitting and defense key reason why he should start. Calhoun can not measure up on defense b/c of size and speed. Trevino should start unless a FA is brought in. Garcia definitely starts but will be surprised if he can repeat at the plate.
I like Lowe at 1b for another year and time to see what Jung has.

I doubt if LeClerc closes much any more

we've had pitchers who eat innings and that's about it Lyles etc. we need someone who pitches and still young enough to be the cornerstone of the rotation until Winn or Dunning or Hearn or Leiter etc are ready to move into that spot.

Well I have little to no expectation that we are competing for a pennant next year so when we add pitching I want a 1 or 2 SP for an extended run. Guys like Kerahaw do not interest me now
I like getting one or 2 young elite position players on fairly long term contracts.

I wonder if this club will ever spend big on the bullpen once we get closer to contending? Maybe Young can convince JD to do just that. JD has treated the bullpen the way Jerry has treated the linebacker position in the past. Hopefully, that will change.

Side thought -listening to old podcast

There was once a time when the national anthem was done via organ etc. but not about an individual performance but simple for honoring the nation and remembering those who paid the price

I get we have talented vocalists but miss the simpler days

Funny the pace of the game is so much quicker back in the day. Commercial breaks were not dragged out

If commercials are added -fine just don’t belly ache over length of game.

are you referring to specific seasons, or overall? Because I can think of several great BP pieces JD brought in.

no to Kershaw.

and i like the idea of signing 1 young elite starter like a Syndergaard or equivalent on a fairly long term deal and going with our young guys in the other 4 starter positions like Hearn, Dunning, Alexy, Otto and maybe Allard or Latz.

FA starter
Hearn
Dunning
Allard or Latz
Alexy/Otto (Opener setup}

I like the idea of getting 2 SP.
1. FA
2. FA/Trade
3. Dunning
4. Hearn
5. Alexy
6. Otto
Winn and others..

There will be injuries, underperformance and guys like Alexy & Otto might be limited.

I see nothing wrong with getting 2 SP.
Alexy and Otto can mix up and pitch in relief as they find their way into the majors.
