Steven Stamkos‘ stint on the injured list remains indefinite, but he’s doing everything he can to return as soon as possible. That includes wearing a removable cast that enables him to kick off an “aggressive rehab,” [ame=""]according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos[/ame].

The 23-year-old has plenty of reasons to make a swift return, even if some may be concerned about him rushing back too soon.

Beyond helping the quick-starting Lightning this season, the 2014 Winter Olympics are still a signpost to shoot for. Interestingly enough, Steve Yzerman is the GM of both squads, so he must have mixed feelings about his star sniper taking a potential risk.

The upside is obvious, though, as he’s had a tremendous start to 2013-14 (14 goals, 23 points in 17 games).

In other Lightning news, Sami Salo is probable for Tampa Bay’s Saturday game against the Phoenix Coyotes, [ame=""]the Tampa Tribune’s Erik Erlendsson reports[/ame].

He shouldn't rush himself. Team is playing well without him, best to make sure he recovers at his own pace. Regardless, I wish him the best, the league is much better when Steven Stamkos is playing.

I'm predicting he returns mid to late march knowing how hard stammer works I would not count him out for the season yet.

I think Stamkos is trying to make the Olympics, I think that's his target of return.

Steven Stamkos is a beast, he'll come back earlier than what people think

Yes I don't think the doctors will clear him for that! Not impossible but very doubtful.

I think he shouldn't rush rehab or make any hasty, quick decisions on how he is progressing. He is very young & such a talent. I wouldn't want him to be sorry later for coming back "to" early. Get well Stammers!

Well Glen Healy reported it will be 8 weeks (2 months) till he can put weight on his broken leg and 12 weeks (3 months) injury. So if that's correct look for an early to mid February return for Stamkos.
