I tend to use "Episode 4", "A New Hope", or "The original Star Wars" interchangeably. A long time ago I use to call it "Star Wars" but that tends to refer to the entire set of movies and depending on the context, it could cause some confusion.

What a bomb... While I didn't expect a huge hit, I didn't expect it to have the smallest box office returns in the franchise. Even the original trilogy movies made more money during their theatrical release 30+ years ago.

It’s amazing how subpar a Han Solo movie can be and yet still be better than Last Jedi.

I'll rate it 6/10, pretty much an unnecessary movie that told us things we already know (he met Chewbacca, won the Falcon in a card game, acquired a blaster, etc.). Didn't really need to see it all acted out. And really cringed when the premise for going to steal the stuff was they were unaffiliated with Dryden in case they got caught, so he sent his well known sidekick to join them (?).

I am ok with accepting that characters have a backstory that occurred before the movie, I don't need to see it all acted out in front of me. And after all that we still don't know how he acquired his vest - did he buy it used, was it on sale? Now we need a movie about that!

I half expect them to make a backstory movie about Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru....

While it wasn't the best Star Wars movie, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Although it would be hard to top the awfulness of The Last Jedi. The worst part of the movie I thought was that feminist robot whose name I don't remember or care to remember.

I thought it was better than a lot of the backlash it received, which I think a lot of that came from Star Wars fatigue. It was released 6 months after TLJ. Star Wars ain't Marvel. It's not something you can just pop out every few months and expect people to flock to it and love it. If it came out this December, I feel like the reception would have been better. Although part of it is its not like people we're clamoring for a Han Solo origin story anyway. Still, it worked for the most part. What sucks the most imo is I was actually a bit more intrigued to see where it would go from there but the lukewarm response it got caused the studio to put basically SW side projects on hold. There's a chance no follow up Solo movies get made.
