LaDainian Tomlinson Says the Chargers Recently Asked Him to Come Out of Retirement | Complex
LaDainian Tomlinson has spent the last two years away from the game of football. Now, at 33, Tomlinson may not be mentally or physically prepared for the rigors of the NFL, but that didn't stop the San Diego Chargers front office from seeing if LT would consider a return to the gridiron for the 2013 season.
"I met [new general manager] Tom Telesco and [rookie head coach] Mike McCoy at the [NFL scouting] combine, and they asked me to come back and play," Tomlinson said. "I saw [executive vice president] John Spanos at a restaurant in Indy, and he introduced me to them, and they brought it up. At first I thought they weren't really serious, but they kept talking about it, and I realized it was real."
In case you wondering how Tomlinson responded to the offer, here's what he had to say:
"No, because when I made the decision to walk away, I wrestled with it long and hard, and I knew it was final," Tomlinson said. "Once I retired, that was it. My mind is in a different place. Mentally, going back would have been too hard."
It would have made my life as a sports fan to see him back in the SD uniform one last time, but nobody wants to see their favorite player come back when he just can't do it anymore.
It woulda been just like when Michael came back. Hard to watch.
