Potential surprise cuts from the grapevine:

QB - Austin Davis (too may Austins)
S - Cody Davis ( we don't want any Davis')
LB - Josh Hull

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I think it would be a mistake to keep Clemens over Davis.

The guy is who he is. He's not going to all of a sudden become a legit backup. Davis is still young and I saw a lot of improvement from this preseason vs last.

If some team doesn't drop a better QB, I would prefer Davis over Clemens.

What is surprising is they kept Shelly Smith over B. Washington. I thought for sure Smith would be gone. But nooo. They have so far kept that stiff. This list gets us to 65. We have to be down to 53 by Sunday morning.

I expect the 1st 3 players to be cut. I think Shelley Smith makes the final 53 as a swing OL. I didn't expect Brodine and Washington to make the final 53 but I thought there were others who would be cut first. Barksdale is the guy who interests me. I think he's going to be cut, but that's just me.

Austin Davis and Josh Hull now official. Austin Davis is still eligible for the practice squad. I would like to see CB Drew Thomas make the practice squad.

Backup QB now #1 on my concern list just ahead of Kendricks. Fortunately, next year's draft is loaded with I believe 6 first and second round QB's.

Veltung and Woodard are the only names that surprise me. I thought they would be on the cusp.
It's RJ Washington DE who has been released not Brandon Washington G as I thought earlier. I rated him above Barksdale the the 8th OL but I still have him as a border line decision.

I am surprised Woodard got cut.

He was looking pretty good this preseason. Veltung didn't show much as far as I'm concerned. I thought Nick Johnson looked better than him and he was cut as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Woodard was picked up by another team.

Perhaps it's just a horrible mistake. Veltung and Woodard would have been fringe players. Giordano and Hooey shouldn't even be on the fringe.

Fastforward, Brandon Washington was cut the day before. I agree that Hooey and Giordano should not have been kept over Brandon Washington or even Nyseke and Woodard. I thought Woodard was having a great camp and pre-season. Sometimes I wonder what some of these coaches are thinking. Perhaps we will see some of the cuts back on the P. Squad but in Woodard's case, I think he'll be snapped up by somebody else.

This list also means Barksdale has made the squad. Hopefully Cody Davis will be brought back on the P. Squad along with Cody and Austin Davis-perhaps.

18 of the 19 names are confirmed. WR Justin Veltung is the exception. I can see no report of G Brandon Washington being cut and the Rams have 11 OL listed. This leaves our roster at 57 with 2 more cuts to come as we have 2 players suspended. I suspect there's a lot of horse trading going on with the Rams trying to trade OL and/or Veltung for other team's fringe players. I wouldn't be shocked if Veltung and Barnes, (or another OL), were traded for Colt McCoy.
