So, for some reason, this season road teams are winning at a higher clip than home teams in the NFL. Why does everyone think it is happening?

Is it just a weird anomaly?

Is it something that has evolved with the game/coaching?

I've actually heard some players mention that they feel less pressure on the road and they feed off the crowd being against them. Personally, I think there may be something to this theory as players today are more cognisant of what the fans/outside world are saying about them and think of them so many of them seem to have more of a chip on their shoulder.

Theories?

Can you look at past betting odds and see how many road favorites there have been and how they have performed without the spread?

Well, the Chargers soccer stadium is expected to be 80% cheeseheads this weekend so is it really a road game?

What about games outside the US? Not really a home game, is it?
Personally, I think those games should count as away games for both teams.

Variance is almost certainly the answer.

This.

Last NFL regular season, the home team won 60.5% of games, which is a typical number, so there's no long-term trend where road teams are advantaged.

Unusual things will randomly happen from time to time. If you flip a fair coin enough times, you will get heads 10 times in a row.

There's an interesting situation in the World Series right now where the road team has been winning every game.

The Steeler game looked like it was near 100%

Much more competitive?

Helk, the World series had the Nationals winning and every team that won during the WS was on the road...
