Series Thread: Rangers Host Cleveland For Three Games May 13-15

The Rangers come home reeling after getting swept by the lowly Rockies. Things are not going very well for the Rangers. The bullpen is struggling, the offense is really struggling, and they are coming back toward .500 very quickly.

This season is beginning to look at lot like 2014 with all of the injuries. This team's record is very close to that team's record at this point of the 2014 season. That 2014 team finished at 67-95.

I was encouraged at how well Urena has done as a starter. I don't believe we will end up like the 2014 team as we will get starters back. At least I hope we do. When that happens we will have some BP pitchers. I am concerned with the ages of Robertson and Yates so having some reinforcements back in the pen hopefully reduces their load. Before the Colorado series they pitched 3 games in 4 days with each one pitching 2 innings in at least 1 of those games. They have been awesome though. Need Leclerc to continue to pitch well and Sborz back and pitching well. When we get Bradford, Eovaldi and Dunning back I am thinking Dunning and Urena will go to the pen.

Unless Gray and/or Heaney get hurt in the meantime. If this year is going to be like 2014, it will mean the injury hits will keep on coming.

Injuryreport from Shawn McFarland:

Outfielder Wyatt Langford (hamstring strain) said that he’s began running at “85 to 90 percent” speed, and resumed hitting on Saturday. Langford can continue to hit so long as it doesn’t irritate his hamstring, and he said that the next step is to resume explosive movements — base running, etc.

Langford was placed on the injured list May 5, and can be reinstated no sooner than May 15. Fellow rookie Evan Carter (lower back) underwent a MRI on Monday and will not be in the starting lineup vs. the Guardians. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said before the game that he didn’t have any further information on Carter’s status than that. Carter reported lower back stiffness on Sunday and did not play in the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

On the pitching front: Nathan Eovaldi (groin strain), Dane Dunning (rotator cuff strain) and Cody Bradford (back strain) each threw in some capacity on Monday. Dunning, who was placed on the injured list Wednesday, threw from 90 feet and said that his arm has begun to feel stronger. He’ll continue to throw and build up his strength.

Eovaldi visited a specialist in New York last Monday and was cleared of a more serious injury. He threw in the Globe Life Field outfield next to Dunning on Monday, and according to Bochy, could resume throwing off of the mound this weekend.
