Why don’t the Rams ever make trades like this?

If they are trying to maximize their window with Stafford, getting an extra 1st in a loaded draft class would be huge.

Isn't that basically a blind trade at this point? No idea who will be available moving up 18 spots. More likely it's extra ammo to move up for a QB packaged with their own 1st. Those two picks could get them as high as 4 per the draft pick value chart (more likely 5 from the Chargers).

Because the ShitferBrains twins fundamentally believe the First Round is overrated and to a large degree results in overpaying for players. Well, if they wouldn't be so damn lazy and do their due diligence, they could get players who really are great players. Ya don't have to always find the GRobs of the world!!

This Curl dude, was a steal. Kudos to the ShitferBrains twins for signing this guy up. And even if Fuller and Johnson come back later, this was a damn good signing.

Well, THAT DAY has arrived. Aaron Donald has announced his retirement from the NFL and the Rams!! That changes everything!!! What a player. Spent his entire career with the Rams and is like players like Jackie Slater, Jack Youngblood, Merlin Olsen...

AD will take some time away and my guess is he will become a coach on McVay's staff at some point in the future!! I know he will be chatting with Andrew Whitworth for sure!!

Oh man, this really sucks. He was still dominant. This changes our whole D. I kinda wish he did it sooner so we could've signed another top DT with his money.

People are just freaking out over this. The Rams are now going to go through the same thing we have at LT only this time on the Defense. The Rams are now going to focus on replacements in the draft. The franchise player for a decade is now history. I think he will be back in some fashion but for now, he is done.

Well now, the Rams don't have to do any restructuring of AD's contract. They now have quite a bit of cap space!!

Over the last five years, the NFL average pass rush win rate against a single pass-blocker was 17% for a qualified rusher. Donald posted an 18% pass rush win rate against double-teams in that span, making him better against two pass-blockers than the average pass-rusher was against one over the past five years.

This is all the proof anyone needs about how dominate this guy was.

Dude was unreal and just left a HUGE gapping hole in the Rams D-line.

Remember that trade I mentioned? The Rams could’ve used a trade like that right now.

Aren’t they still in the hook for his contract even though he retired?

At least the guaranteed portion.

Yes. It depends if there was a clause allowing for retirement to void the remainder of the contract. If not, the restructuring stands and the guaranteed portion will probably be paid-out in a lump sum when the transaction of retirement becomes official and lasting. Sometimes players retire and then change their minds or allow the coach to talk them out of retirement like McVay tried with Whitworth.

The Rams are now going to have to figure out a way to get sacks this season. The Niners are jumping up and down. Maybe the Rams under Shula should reinstate the 4-3 defense and get a couple of DTs in the draft.

Interesting stat. Aaron Donald is one of six players in NFL history to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first 10 seasons. The list includes players like Joe Thomas, Lawrence Taylor, and Merlin Olsen!
