how much value does a pitcher have who pitches well and has a good era but has to throw 20 to 25 pitches every inning thus causing the bp to pitch 3 or 4 innings every game he starts? he has 6 wins this year with 3.04 era which is ranked 12th best. you have to go down to #34 before you find a pitcher with the same or fewer wins. no one else in the top 17 have fewer than 9 wins.

my opinion of JQ is dropping fast. good pitcher ... gets way too many non-decisions because he can't stay in the game long enough. his lifetime average is less than 6 1/2 innings per game. in close to 3 full years he has 21 wins. 7+ wins a year ... and that's with a lifetime 3.48 era! this is not good for a supposed #2 guy.

today 116 pitches in 5 innings. four innings for our bp and we know what kind of bp that is. the 2 run lead is promptly lost, he loses another victory and i don't blame the bp for it. i blame quintana.

Agreed, the pen first, plus 1-2 more starters and maybe a catcher. They should have plenty of money to spend. Hahn so far knows what he's doing.

in fact, from the beginning of july to date he's had 6 of 6 quality starts. he got one win out of that. and the sox lost 4 of those 6.

i swear i think sale should have 15 wins by now. and quintana 10 or 12.

do you think you can undermine a pitcher and make him very unhappy by paying no serious attention to the bp? i could see sale and JQ losing confidence in this organization because of their ineptness and doing so little to bolster the weakest part of this team. sale probably already feels a little pissed because he's beginning to realize what a sweetheart deal he gave the sox. then they do nothing (yes, nothing except recycling this bunch of loser relievers over and over ... you watch, pretty soon belisario will be given another chance at closing!)) to protect his great performances.

Quintana pitched well today, and deep into the game. Ventura/Belisario lost the game.

The Sox will win 5 more games next year just having Belisario off the team.
