Looking over the stats sheet and I was not surprised to see the Bucs have drawn exactly five walks over their first five games. That's just not good enough, especially when they've struck out thirty-eight times :tsk:

More walks would be nice, but part of that is a function of the pitchers they've faced. Halladay and Lee for sure don't walk a lot of guys.

I also get the impression they're trying to be more aggressive at the dish. Which is fine if you're getting hits.

They're not.

only 5 walks is abysmal. but they have faced some pretty studly pitching so far in halladay, lee, worley(12-4 last year), kershaw, and billingsley.

those 5 probably salivated and circled the pirate date as a possible shutout, no-no, or for halliday, a perfect game possibility.

Karstens is having a rough first inning.

What is up with our lineup tonight? I'm not even talking about the atrocious number of strikeouts, because I don't really want to, but it's like a Sunday lineup.

I can never tell, but either Capuano is painting a lot, or his strike zone is huge tonight.

I'm leaning toward the former.

Missed there, though. And we have speed on base.

Hm... Apparently Ross Ohlendorf is completely out of baseball. I can't believe no one even offered him a minor league deal.

I think based on that home run alone, I would like for the Fort to be the starting catcher.

He and Barajas are very similar players. Better defensively than offensively, and all they're really good for on offense is the occasional bomb of a home run.

Well, Cutch is on Capuano.

Lots of hard-hit balls tonight for the Bucs, but also a lot of strikeouts. They need to put it together.

Yeah this is a very impressive start by Karstens. He deserves some damn run support. Leadoff man on!

That's why I consider Jeff our ace. Nothing gets to him. He just keeps pitching.

He's certainly in consideration of that title. Although, with Bedard in the rotation, it is hard to ignore his pedigree. Jeff is definitely a workhorse, no doubt.

McGehee is looking like an excellent acquisition early on this game.
