What doesn't make sense? You did the calculation yourself. FIP focuses solely on home runs, walks, HBP, and strikeouts (xFIP ignores home runs). FIP doesn't give a shit about singles, doubles, or triples, because balls in play are largely out of the pitcher's hand. It also ignores sequencing/luck. It's a far superior statistic than ERA

To follow up, here's what I got. R gave me the 2002 data perfectly, but I fucked up in the 2011 data. R is trying to give me an aneurysm, and the Phillies suck. What's new?
