Day to Day
Padres want to dump Wil Meyers and his $61M contract. They were talking to the Red Sox about taking Mookie and Price but wouldn't take Price's contract and wanted the Red Sox to take all of Meyers'. The padres blew it and Mookie and Price are now in LA.
Phase II. The Padres are still trying to get rid of Meyers' contract and now the Red Sox have a bit of room and are willing to take Meyers and half of his salary but will get a pitching prospect to do it. The Padres don't want to eat that much but they don't have anyone else interested.
Phase III. The Red Sox are willing to trade Jackie Bradley Junior. Now the Padres are really listening and are willing to do much, much more. Right now there's nothing solid but it looks like the Red Sox will get Meyers for half of his salary and the Padres will get JBJ. The Red Sox would also get three prospects from the Padres. Pitcher Cal Quantrill, catcher Luis Campusano and shortstop Gabriel Arias.
It's not in stone, but it looks more like granite than soapstone.
