Mayhew was dumb, so he didn't use any "saved" money. And Suh was not going to accept the same contract Miami offered him. He wanted out.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports free agent Joe Berger is expected to take "several weeks" before making a decision on retirement.

Berger is "probably done" but still hasn't ruled out returning for another season. He has a standing offer from the Vikings, but Minnesota is expected to move on. Berger has also been linked to Detroit.

I think the Lions are desperate to trade AA and wont get much for him. If we get more than a 5th I would be shocked. We get some veteran leadership with Blount but at a sizeable price. I think we overpayed a bit but it is only 1 year so not a huge deal.

It's a small risk on the salary scale, and a minimal time commitment. If the Lions think the problem with the run game is the RB toting the ball, then this is an improvement. If it turns out its the scheme or the line play, then the time commitment is short enough to allow for other pieces to be substituted a year from now. Plus, the depth of RB's in the draft is supposedly exceptional this year, adding to flexibility of which back to draft. Not a bad move at this time.

The price is mot bad. 2 million is very reasonable. I will be curious to see what the incentives are to move it up to 4.5
