I've never bothered with gambling - other than as paid entertainment with the occasional refund - but if I did, seems like sports betting is the logical place to go. As a statistician, it's pretty easy to see why most casino type games are a losing proposition, but the way betting lines move intrigues me. I think if you limited yourself to betting on favourites where the lines get significantly moved by sentimental underdogs, you could probably do pretty well. You would just need an environment where events like that happened regularly enough to take an advantage of a (probably small) positive expectation value.

Grinding it out is a tough living. Go big or go home.

Also, if you're going to go degenerate, go with men's tennis and stay clear of the ponies.

The Oilers are 5.5:1 Cup favorites and the Red Wings are in the draft lottery.:boom:

My first thought was: anyone who thinks the Oilers have a substantially better chance at the Cup next year then the Sabres or Leafs IS a degenerate

Damn. I must have athlete's mouth, for all the time my foot spends there.

This may sound homerish but Ottawa is kind of a good bet. They were dynamite against the Metro division this year (15-6-3), which is all that remains of the Leastern Conference. If they were to get the final, no one out in the Bestern Conference looks like they're unbeatable.

At 10-1 that's tempting if I had any real disposable income these days. Fucking kids just won't let you be a degenerate. :gaah:

And this will seem insane, but OTT at 28/1 is not the worst move. They look as good as anyone in the Atlantic, and admittedly will have to be lucky to get past the Metropolitan winner. But if they could, I would like their chances against anyone in the West.
