After a strong start, Marcus Stroman yielded four runs and six hits in six innings. He is 1-1 in five starts with the Mets since arriving from Toronto in a trade. They won his previous four.

Stroman exited his previous outing with hamstring tightness, but showed no ill effects.

"I need to do a better job after Alonso hits that homer, having a shutdown inning coming out that next half," Stroman said. "I usually pride myself on that."

Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard (9-6, 3.71 ERA) faces Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks (9-9, 3.20 ERA) in the middle game on Wednesday night.
Both threw shutout ball to win in their last time out. Hendricks is 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA in three career starts against the Mets, though he hasn't faced them since July 2016. Syndergaard has posted a career-best eight consecutive quality starts.

Jeff McNeil hit a 2 run blast...JD Davis smashed a solo shot... Joe Panik stroked a 2 out rbi single to chase Hendricks...and Rosario also hit a 2 out rbi single.



Mets put up a 5 spot.

It's now a 10-6 game.

New York has dropped five straight, all at home, and lost steam on an improbable second-half surge into the playoff chase. The Mets will try to avoid a three-game sweep Thursday night before traveling to Philadelphia for a pivotal three-game series this weekend.

After sweeping Cleveland last week, the Mets will try once again to avoid being swept in b2b home series'. They didn't accomplish that task last weekend vs Atlanta.

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (8-7, 2.56 ERA) and Cubs LHP Jon Lester(10-9, 4.49) are set to pitch the series finale.
