Glendale city council has contracted a firm to look at fall and winter dates for event booking at Gila River Arena...

So, while we wait for the lawyers to do their thang, where should the team move to?

AFAIK, Quebec City is the only option if you need an NHL-calibre rink by September. Are there other options?

An NHL Calibre rink is important, but remember there have been a number of moves to less than ideal buildings with the follow through of a proper rink not long after.

They should be looking at growth of the game first, then competition balance in the NHL second. A good barn is third.

Seattle, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Portland, etc. All west.

Not Vegas.

The Phoenix mayor wants them back

Phoenix mayor wants the tax base back. Income tax on the players alone will make a huge difference for the city.

Why this is even relevant to the post you replied to?

The difference in median income between between Orange & Maricopa counties is $22k, not $30k. And the difference in median incomes between Anaheim & Glendale is only $11.7k. The difference in median income between Los Angeles & Glendale is $2k, between Los Angeles & Maricopa counties is $2.5k.

Are you telling me the Kings shouldn't exist in Los Angeles?

Again I am not sure of your point.
An income difference of $8-12K is still rather significant.

The point is favourably comparing Anaheim/Orange County and Glendale lacks logic based on both population and income.

We need to keep in mind that "NHL-calibre" means "lots of boxes that can/will be sold" and not much else.

The Coyotes should play at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, lord knows the fans watching the piss-poor Blades could use a change.

iirc the boxes at America Airlines in Phoenix extended/were directly above the playing surface at one end of the ice but hey as 43 said ... with the follow through of a proper rink not long after

well what do you know lol

While it's unlikely that the current downtown arena -- given its limitations -- would be a permanent solution for the Coyotes, there have been at least whispers of a new facility for the Suns in the not too distant future, and such a facility could conceivably be designed to house both teams

ITS GONNA BE A FAIRY TALE ENDING FOLKS!!!!

It doesn't matter where the Coyotes move to in AZ, they are still going to have the same problems with attendance till they put a winning product on the ice. Moving them to Phoeniz won't fix this.

Also, a new shared Arena wouldn't likely be built for 8+ years.

i would only add that a financially stable owner is also key, and in my mind as important as your #1 criteria.

sounding more like a rapunzel story now

Yep. Sarver(Suns owner) wants a new arena in the future. He still has 8 years remaining on the current lease for current arena which is only 23 years old. So, the likelihood of a new one being built & open before 2023 is almost zero.
