These games are just regular season games. However, wins in these games will also count towards points towards the 'Cup'

I think its the NBAs way of making regular season games a little more meaningful.

Exactly. Same here. That's why the only reason I can think of for them to do this is to try to pry some eyes away from football. It'll be interesting to see if it effects ratings at all.

I think anyone that isn't already watching the NBA has no idea this is even happening. Even us hardcore NBA fans aren't even clear on how it is playing out as shown above.
The only thing that may come out of it is that the Clippers may get something to hang in the rafters (sorry @Mecca, it's just too easy to play to the audience).
