1989 North Wilkesboro Fall 400

This is the ESPN Classic rebroadcast which means it's sans cusswords near the end by a Mr. Earnhardt. Bleeps are substituted instead.

The reason for those bleeps occur on the last lap. Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett, and Benny Parsons are your commentary trio. Dale Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace are involved in a struggle for the Winston Cup Championship. The conclusion of the race itself is rather exciting and the postrace ain't too bad either.

Is that the one where Ricky Rudd had to be snuck out of the speedway?

Yep. They had to put him under a blanket in the back of a van to sneak him out of the track. Or at least that's the story.

1979 Daytona 500

This one's kind of important. It was NASCAR's first flag-to-flag covered event on network television with CBS doing the honors. Ken Squier and David Hobbs are your commentary duo and while there are highlights throughout the race, this one's all about the finish and what happened after said finish.

I am old. :rip:

I remember watching that race live and the post race interview. Of course I also remember when Earnhardt was driving a Ford.

1987 Winston Western 500

This is a rather bittersweet race. It's the penultimate event on the Winston Cup calendar, but the ultimate for Riverside itself as after this race, the track would be no more. The broadcast on TBS doubled as a race and memorial service for a fast road course that by 1990 would be turned into something completely different. Eventually, Riverside's spot on the schedule would be taken over by Sonoma.
